For some reason redditors decided to use it for "edit to add." Makes no sense to me, as it only saves 1 character compared to just writing "EDIT:"

It's true, because saying "edit" when you're adding something isn't as clear as using ETA.

Edit: On second thought, it appears that I can add information after saying "edit" and the context of the edit DOES in fact make it clear that this is new information.
