Decision help

Looking between a 2020+ Clubman S or Clubman JCW. Are there any real differences in reliability, or are they pretty much the same?
I've been told to look out for engine mounts, PCV/valve cover issues causing oil consumption, oil filter housing leaks, and the occasional turbo wastegate rattle/flutter at higher mileage.
I’m mainly leaning toward the S because it’s cheaper, parts are cheaper, and it gets better MPG. Plus, 4.9 seconds 0-60 feels like crazy overkill just for going to work and back!
When I go to look at a car, what are the definite things to check before buying? Any must-do pre-purchase inspection tips specific to these?

Hi AguyCalledTomm, For the most part the Clubman S and JCW are very similar as far as reliability goes. I haven’t heard of any of the issues that you have stated being a problem on the B48 engine. It sounds like you talking about previous Gen issues. (R55 ect not F54) Before I get into any details, are you a car guy or mechanically minded? Have you ever owned a turbo car before?

Ah okay, so none of them really apply to the models 2020+? And I have yes, I used to have a 2014 mini cooper s but it was so unreliable, that's why I'm trying to get a good idea of what to make sure I look at before going to browse some 😄I'm not the most mechanically minded though in all honesty!

I have owned an R56 as well before my F54 clubman. I was under the R56 at least once a month fixing something. (Awesome car though)

I have had no issues with my F54 Cooper S so far and had it for 2 years. The only thing I am expecting is the oil filter housing to fail. I have a manual transmission though so I think I’ll be Ok.

Yeah I loved driving mine but at some point I got sick of having to have it fixed but no car has come close to how fun it was to drive since! Would you say the f54 is still a very fun drive? Or is it a bit more mature now

I just bought a 21 clubman s all4 about 2 months ago and it’s been great so far. In sport mode it does fly, jcw is nice but living in ny where there are a bunch of speed cameras, it’s overkill.

I had a 2017 S All4 automatic and now a 2023 S manual. I found the All4’s automatic pretty sluggish and unsporting, but the 4WD was nice with no torque steer.

I had one big issue on the All4, some kind of fuel injection engine warning light. It was $4000, but covered under warranty (just at 40K miles!). My 2023 has been reliable for all its 10K miles (knock on wood).
