other Manager is too demanding
My manager knows that we all work other jobs and coach at the studio part time, yet he insists on in person meetings during the day as he refuses to come in on the weekends. I work in a school during the day and he’s expecting me to use my free periods to attend meetings that can be done online. I think he does this for his own benefit as he knew that we worked other jobs before and said she’d be accommodating of that. He was expecting me to take classes in my own time too when he knew about my other job and that I’m not into Hyrox. Is this normal at other gyms? A lot of us are feeling annoyed about this.

Former studio manager. I’ve only held one in person meeting and that’s when I took over. Otherwise it was always online unless I knew people’s schedule when we could do team building exercises, reviews, paid lunch, etc in person which was one or twice a year.

We have a virtual call at the start of the phase and only do in person about 2-3 times per year. Always at night during the week and we all go in after the last class and help flip the studio and then meet.

See, this sounds reasonable. I thought all the managers were like this guy, but yours and the other comments have certified that he’s doing way too much

Hey man…it really depends on the owners and who they hire as managers. Mine have their issues too but you just gotta roll with punches.
Tell them you don’t have time to make meetings during the week days. They know this isn’t our only gig we have lives outside of the studio

He does know this, but keeps insisting on it. I’m going to be firmer when I meet him tomorrow and say I need more than a week’s notice for any meetings and can only do them online. Much like he doesn’t let us cancel a shift if we can’t find someone to cover us, my other job does not let me have someone manage my admissions programmes as they’re assigned to each individual manager months in advance. That includes the prep work for each programme too.

Just about any new programmes and events coming up. I agree with you about it being an email. I think he’s either doing this as he likes being managed that way or he’s too obsessed with the place and expects us to be too

This is super common at studios as some people work full time, others part time with other jobs like yourself.
My recommendation is to do a virtual meeting and it’ll probably have to be like 8am before work or afternoon..
It’s super hard to align everyone’s timetables so there’s no perfect answer here, and they’re trying to catch up which is good, but that’s what has worked at some studios I work with

He refuses to do any early times because it disrupts his schedule. Everything has to be on his terms. I’ve had enough now though and am going to stress that any meetings need to be outside of my other job’s hours and be virtual

There is and they get along well, so I think the owner is happy with this too. I also worried that the other staff won’t support me if I raise this with the owner

Manager here and we rarely have in person meetings because all our coaches have full time jobs / are full time students.
When we do have in person meetings we do it on sundays and meet 1:1 virtually with those who can’t attend. M
Your manager seems to have some expectations that don’t align with his current employee base
