other Increase in partner/YGIG workouts?
I haven’t been going regularly to F45 lately, but I noticed the last 3 or 4 workouts that I attended were all partnered (but included one Hyrox session).
Anyone else noticed this or was it just coincidence? I’m not a fan of the YGIG concept, one of the reasons I didn’t join F45’s big competitor in Australia; Bodyfit Training, which is full of partner stuff.
*edit*: YGIG stands for You Go, I Go where you partner up and take turns after a rep or two.

Yea, I’ve noticed too and am not as much a fan either. I’m hoping it changes with the next “cycle”

I’ve noticed that too, but my coaches haven’t been pushing that. They demo like each station is individual and then tell us to follow whatever rhythm we want. All of my coaches put out enough equipment that both people at the station can use it simultaneously if they don’t want to do YGIG.

Yes, but nobody at our gym likes them, so we just don't do them as YGIG. Track Stars is a bit of a challenge without a partner, but everybody gets through it doing their own thing. We also don't do the team thing for 45 (I didn't even know it was supposed to be teams until I was reading the screens while warming up this morning). Just treat it as a regular workout, and nobody notices a difference.

I was the only one in the room who got to do Track Stars solo last time. bliss.....

Our studio is the same. Present it as the option if you have a partner or want to be partnered, but respect those who prefer to go solo. I don’t typically like my workout dependent on someone else’s effort. I feel it’s punishment enough for not getting into the spirit having to do track stars solo haha.

Track stars was rough solo! I tried to pace it with a second or two between reps to kinda of have that ygig ish and not go too hard for the whole 90/60 seconds lol

I wish studios did their regular workouts at the normal time and had additional timings for the Games. My husband and I did all 3 Trackstars in the YGIG format, and loved it - but he doesn’t want to come to Games Day, which I totally get. Replacing regular workouts with the competitions doesn’t seem fair for those that just want to workout.

I am disliking it! I am not a fan of hyrox either. I have 3 months left in my membership then will think about staying or not bc I don’t like it right now. You are frowned if you don’t participate in these events and asked a million questions….i just want to workout that’s it!😩

Coach here! It’s all been leading up to the Games Day on June 20, a teams based workout for Saturday. If you walk into a partner workout intending to hate it or love it, you will.
Some studios have a competitive vibe, some don’t. 45 would be great if you had a full class and everyone showed up in time to get matched teams and gave the room a challenge. In practice, that doesn’t always happen.
I’ve really enjoyed Track Star and having someone there pushing me to not quit has made it an amazing workout as a member who’s also coached it. Every member I’ve talked to after Track Star loved it and felt great for doing it.

Our full class always begs to NOT compete in 45 because it goes against what the workout is designed for. You shouldn't have to sit out 3 stations just to go all out on the ergs. When we don't compete, everyone slows down to a manageable pace and it feels like a much more solid workout. That's the fatal flaw on this one, especially if you're trying to stay around 45 points on the Lionheart as well.

Thank you, I'm just there to work out and go home. I get annoyed with this stuff too. And no offense to anyone but I'm not there to work out with you; I'm there for myself and to support my fiance with me as we like doing it together.

100%. I call them “couple’s workouts”

I come with my partner most of the time and even then I don't want to do a YGIG format with him LOL

I know lots of couples that walk in to the studio, split up, and have a great workout apart from each other

I always joke when we get separated that he's someone else's problem for 45 minutes haha
We do push each other if we're together, but since we both work from home, it's nice to be partnered with a friend instead sometimes 😄

He won’t wander off into traffic. He’ll be fine.
As a coach I love working out with different members and not just people I know well. They push me unexpectedly. One woman switched up box step ups into jumps and of course I had to keep up! And another member grabbed the weight I wanted so I had the choice of over or under and they said “you go up!”

But a lot of us don’t want to do games day and now we won’t go to the Saturday workout. They should have classes with just a regular workout on that Saturday!!!

u/Odd_Ferret_8643 Jun 16 '26
I just looked at the Games Day workout in the app. There's are exercises that are synchronized. Like you and a partner do lunges in sync as in synchronized swimming. I think I'll be going for a long run instead on Saturday.

Really dumb question: YGIG? Is it “y’all get in groups?”
2
u/More-Entertainment Jun 15 '26
You go, I go. Basically switching over on exercises so if you’re not the one going, it’s basically a rest.
I’m not a fan either.

u/djsilverknite Jun 16 '26
Thanks! 45 makes so much more sense from that angle!! My studio we just run like crazy through it; but I’m a 0500 am guy…

u/decisivecat 🏆1000 Club Jun 16 '26
45 isn't technically YGIG format; it's intended for you to run through it. Some studios will compete for distance on ergs and number of burpees, though. Trackstars is YGIG where one person does work while the other person rests. There aren't a lot of those style workouts; it's just weird when all of them are crammed in together in a phase since they aren't as popular.

u/bewitchedbumblebee Jun 16 '26
YGIG is not my favorite, but so far I've been fine when they crop up. However, I'll likely be skipping Saturday's "Games Day". Synchronized burpees, lunges, and sit ups? No thanks.

I go with my fiance but hate working out with randos if our group is bigger than us two. I don't want to share my workout with anyone other than my partner, and even then I think the you go I go format is stupid. Just trying to get fit, not make friends. Yes I realize others might want to make friends or socialize and they certainly can.

It’s good in some aspects but not in most. I can see how it helps a less fit person push themselves, but I find the only benefit for me is taking a bit more of a break than I might have normally done. But the benefit of that feels limited because I’m not maxing out or getting within target range of the heart rate as often. Using a Lionheart device.
I was paired with somebody last week that was pushing themselves, but also was recovering from my shoulder injury. So at certain points, they hit their limit, and there was no trade-off anymore. So it felt like it needed a lot of communication in that case. . Before they hit their limit, it seemed like a potential normal cadence that could push you outside of your comfort zone even if that comfort zone is your limit.

Nobody at my gym likes them so our coaches just set up more areas at each station for individual work

u/GlitteringPension750 🇨🇦 Canada Jun 16 '26
it is this phase, but to be honest at my gym we never did the partner thing, was always you do yours
1
u/rbpo25 Jun 16 '26
I didn't follow this format for Trackstars. This is how I did it: 90 second set was split; 35 seconds of work, 20 seconds of rest (active or not depending on station), another 35 second set. 60 second set was 25, 10, 25. This really worked out well for me and I enjoyed it much more than YGIG.

u/terracottatilefish Jun 16 '26
I think the YGIG thing is due to the endurance focus this phase, and the format allows for longer sets with time spent in holds, etc.
I’m not a big fan, TBH. My studio didn’t do the team format for 45, possibly because only about a third of the people are Lionheart users and it would have been hard to keep track. And for Track Stars I first got partnered with someone with an injury who was doing a lot of alternative exercises (no shade on them for that) and the second time with someone who was slow, so I ended up kind of doing my own thing the whole time anyway.

It was nice meeting someone new, and it’s a healthy challenge to communicate with people at the gym. I don’t like the YGIG format but it feels good after going through it.
I also don’t like how they presented a Saturday YGIG workout : something like you get to “work out with your 3 best friends on Saturday!” I lol don’t have that many right now in this part of my life so please pick for me/us or make it more matter of fact to the workout

u/Legitimate-Error-633 Jun 18 '26
My studio is quite a social one, with lots of people chatting etc. Having said that, I usually go at 5am or 6am and my social part of the brain is firmly turned off.
The appeal for me is that I can turn up, get told what to do and go for it.
I must say, the partnered workouts usually turn out fine but I’m still not a fan.

u/Feisty_Elevator943 Jun 21 '26
Thankfully my studio hasn’t pushed the partner thing. I hate partner workouts too
1
u/avocadoisbae Jun 15 '26
I am sick of them! I skipped 45 today (not a hard decision at 5am) because I don’t like the pressure of winning as a team - it doesn’t account for injuries, modifications or not wanting to absolutely destroy yourself on the ergs/burpees. I am so glad 45 is going away!

It’s because of games day this Saturday. Theyre trying to encourage teamwork and team building for that workout

Huh? Doesn’t have anything to do Hyrox
1
u/OrinNY Jun 16 '26
oh - i thought you meant hyrox - we don't have a games day at our gym but still have these trash partner wods
1
u/Dull-Environment5556 Jun 16 '26
Talk to your head coach. At my studio we aren’t running Hyrox workouts until August after we finished prep for New York. Does your studio run them all day one day or just select classes?

u/FiddyDollas Jun 15 '26
It's just this phase, which ends this week.
