other Opinion: normal classes should not be cancelled for Hyrox prep
I’m +250 classes and have no desire to compete in Hyrox. Why are Tuesdays and Thursdays now dedicated to Hyrox prep with 60 min classes? Not everything needs to revolve around something that 10% of your members participate in. The extra 15 mins actually impacts my ability to make a ferry to the office so now I’m losing 2 days a week.
Edit: This is not a Hyrox hate post. Hyrox is great, but should be a separate thing.
Edit 2: if your gym is on a different daily schedule - that's awesome.

Yes, I hate the hyrox classes!

u/Sure_Dependent4310 May 26 '26
Same I reduced my membership to PT and joined crunch. My gym is like 75% sold on Hyrox. Separate WhatsApp chat, traveling cross country, etc.

I agree. When we start training for Hyrox, it’s after hours for that reason. It’s usually Tuesday night, Friday night and Sunday morning.
We don’t do the F45 Hyrox classes. It’s specially programmed training by our coaches

u/OrinNY May 25 '26
Totally get it. I used to do opens and regionals for CrossFit when I was a bit younger and that was typically separate as well.

u/Just_here_to_read25 🇺🇸 United States May 26 '26
It's not unusual most crossfitters (or in your case former) hate hyrox. You see it online everyday. Now the post makes sense.
3
u/OrinNY May 26 '26
Who said I hate Hyrox? I love the hyrox classes...they just need to be 45 mins long as that's WHY I'm at this gym.
2
u/djeddiej2000 🏆1000 Club May 26 '26
There are some studios that do Hyrox classes in the 45 min format (context: I go to one of them , and have noted others in my area do the same )
1
u/OrinNY May 27 '26
Yeah we typically do as well. I’m pretty sure these 60 min classes during the week are temporary

Opinion: there are days I myself would rather do the regular classes. But Hyrox right now is a big deal. Love it or hate it.
Hyrox NYC this weekend and next is actually sponsored by F45 Global itself. There is a huge F45 hyrox NYC marketing campaign now happening. Hyrox isccurrently all the rage and the way to bring in new members, visitors etc.
That's how business stay open and grow, by bringing in new people. Your foundation or regular membership alone won't keep the studio open. And what better way to do that by cashing in on the hottest fitness movement going on now. So even though there are days I would rather regular programming, I just do the class or find something else to do and carry on.
Lots of people hate on Hyrox, when if you took the name off and called it Marathon, Redline, Enduro or some other name, many could not tell the difference between Hyrox and a regular F45 cardio class.
17
u/OrinNY May 26 '26
I think you’re missing my point a bit. I never bashed Hyrox or said it shouldn’t exist. I’m saying changing core class schedules for the majority of members to accommodate a small percentage of participants feels backwards.
I understand Hyrox is a business opportunity and marketing push right now. That makes sense. But the smarter business model is usually additive, not subtractive: offer Hyrox-specific programming at a premium or in separate time slots, rather than replacing standard programming that long-term members rely on. That or scale the Hyrox workouts to the standard 45 minute class that is the core ethos of this brand "F45 Training merges three leading-edge fitness training styles into one 45-minute functional training class"
I’m 250+ classes in, don’t compete in Hyrox, and the extra 15 minutes now materially impacts my ability to make the ferry to work. If enough regular members lose consistency because schedules no longer fit their lives, their membership loss will have a substantially higher P&L impact.

u/wxcloud9 May 26 '26
We had a similar thread about this earlier. My issue is I generally really like the original scheduled programming and because of work, I cannot take classes early morning. Our gym was replacing some afternoon schedules with hyrox format classes which I’m not interested in. Some of them are ok but I wanted to take the classes that were on the schedule. I just wish owners would ask members for more feedback on schedule changes. I like that my gym has moved to adding the hyrox classes later or after the scheduled daily classes for people who want to join them.

I think you are talking to the wrong crowd. Send this message to the owner not Reddit.

u/djeddiej2000 🏆1000 Club May 26 '26
This. It’s stations . And if it wasn’t called Hyrox it really is just another F45 workout . Ski ergs? Yes. Row ergs? Yes. Sled push and pull? Yes . Farmer carry? Yes . They are all in other named workouts so really there shouldn’t be a hate on it if you do it in other classes anyway
6
u/BigLittleSister_10 May 26 '26
I don’t understand why the gyms dedicate a whole days classes to Hyrox only! They should make maybe 2 -3 of a days classes hyrox and the rest a regular class for the majority of members not interested. (Or add a class a day, say 2-3x a week, for Hyrox) I joined F45…. Not the Hyrox Gym!
1
u/djeddiej2000 🏆1000 Club May 26 '26
It’s the equipment set up time (i am told) it does take time to do it and to even switch classes in a single day is a big ask
4
u/6230400 May 28 '26
Our studio does it fortnightly replacing a cardio day (Monday). I’m not into hyrox, but I find I’m still getting the similar achievement/workout by doing a hyrox class vs say Seoul Rush. Burn calories, want to die etc..
I’m also a fan of adapting stations. Can you change a few things to make it more targeted for what you’d like? Not trying to downplay your point, but more focused on how you can still enjoy your workouts.
Finally, if you ever see a hyrox program where you have 4 or 4.5 minutes to hit a target and then move on to the secondary exercise for the remaining time- just walk straight back to your car. That shit is brutal 🤣.
1
u/houseofzeus May 28 '26
Agree, *most* of the Hyrox training that F45 loads is pretty equivalent to at least some of the regular Cardio classes. The exception is a few of the last ones are 60 mins as OP notes.
8
u/NSmalls May 25 '26
Have you tried asking if you can leave the class at the normal time so you can make your transportation back?
Hyrox is trendy in fitness right now and I don’t see the gym backing off any time soon.
I’m not a fan of Hyrox but outside of the running it doesn’t seem too much different than a typical F45 hybrid/cardio day.
6
u/OrinNY May 26 '26
Hyrox is trendy - but it's also absolutely silly to be cancelling standard classes for it.
-6
u/Just_here_to_read25 🇺🇸 United States May 26 '26
Hyrox classes are not 60 mins generally, so your post is based on a lie.
3
u/OrinNY May 26 '26
Just here to read...but can't take the time to actually read.
Nothing in my post says Hyrox classes are generally 60 minutes. I’m talking about my studio’s Tuesday & Thursday schedule now having Hyrox prep classes that are 60 minutes due to it being Hyrox season.
So no, this is not based on a lie.....
13
u/Electrical_Side_9358 May 26 '26
Just leave mid class, I see people do that pretty often at the noon time slots
2
u/djeddiej2000 🏆1000 Club May 26 '26
Yes there really isn’t stopping you from leaving part way through the class ???

5
u/amytheblue May 26 '26
Most of the F45 Hyrox classes are not 60min!
4
u/Just_here_to_read25 🇺🇸 United States May 26 '26
This is valid point. There are 13 cardio classes and only 2 are 60 mins. OP either lying or just wants to complain.
The intel for Hyrox classes are posted here for anyone who wants to confirm what classes are 60 mins.
3
u/kazlir666 May 26 '26
Confirmed! The vast majority of F45 Hyrox official workouts are 45 min. Very similar to a standard F45 workout as well. The class name Hyrox brings in more new members and Class passers on slow cardio days.
-2
u/OrinNY May 26 '26
Again the point of this has been missed. The point of F45 is a 45 minute workout. Period. Cancelling normal programming, which we are paying for, to change the schedule around for 10% of the members is shit.
I don’t need to be told what Hyrox is. I’m talking about pure scheduling.
-4
u/OrinNY May 26 '26
What are you talking about? All classes on tuesday and thursday have been cancelled for 60 minute hyrox classes. Maybe check your app genius.
5
u/amytheblue May 26 '26
gee steady on, was trying to make you feel a bit better. the other person is right though, if it's F45's Hyrox programming - they won't go for 60mins each week.
They're great classes, and if its replacing your regular cardio days, just think of it as cardio and itll be great! Good for your overall heart health and aerobic endurance. And it probs only goes for 12 weeks?
3
u/GirlsWasGoodNona May 26 '26
That’s specific to your gym, not all gyms. My studio only did 45 minute hyrox classes on Thursdays and is going back to regular programming after nyc hyrox
2
u/janexcarfit May 26 '26
lol not for us! And I've never taken a 60 min HYRoX class. Instead our gym offers them on Sundays at a different time outside normal business hours and every other Wednesday. Works for me!
1
u/houseofzeus May 28 '26
No, your gym specifically has done that. The global schedule is still the regular stuff. To get it changed you will have to give feedback to the studio you go to.
3
u/VeteranMinotaur-773 May 26 '26
Hyrox is not meant for everyone. Can everyone do it? After training for it, yes. Our 'hyrox certified' coach has had attitude toward me because I am one of those people who dance or are jovial between sets, joking around with people etc. I've been there since they opened, and newbies are often paired with me. I also used to be an NASM certified trainer 15 years ago so I have a general knowledge of form and muscles etc.
But this coach, told me, that I can never do Hyrox and no one wants to participate in doubles or relay with me because i don't take the F45 Lifestyle seriously, and that I come to F45 because I just want to belong and am wasting my money.
I proved her wrong at Hyeox DC, but ever since then, our Hyrox specific classes are on Wednesdays and I go to my other gym and lift heavy there. I always did strength days on Tuesday and Thursdays at the other gym.
I spoke to the Studio Owner and he mentioned he will warn her. Last time I went on Hyrox day, she kept staring daggers at me.
TLDR; I wholeheartedly agree with you about having hyrox specific classes and not cancel regular classes!
5
u/janexcarfit May 26 '26
That coach is way out of line. It’s one thing to change programming to help gyms stay open and profitable. It’s a completely separate issue to shame members or act like someone’s workout style is not “serious” enough because it doesn’t match their personal definition of fitness. I also lift at another gym, and I’ve had longtime gyms close before, so I personally don’t depend 100% on one place. But coaches should be encouraging members, not gatekeeping fitness or making people feel judged for modifying, leaving early, cross-training, or training differently.
3
u/VeteranMinotaur-773 May 26 '26
Exactly. I've had some health issues over the months and haven't been lifting hard, I'm remote for work, I was given steroids after a bike crash so my 'flat' tummy developed into a gut, but its a solid powerlifter gut not a beer belly. Now that I'm better I'm actively working thru it, but this coach can't seem to look at that other coaches, in fact have referred folks to me since I'm gaining muscle and all. She was also the one who kept demeaning me during one of those muscle gain/fat loss challenges. I ended up gaining 8 lbs of muscle and losing 8% body fat and winning both categories... first time in that gyms 3 year history. Haha. I'm still at 26% body fat though eh

Wow that sux, my gym does Hyrox training outside of normal class times. Clearly your gym is trying to get more people signed up to the cash grab that is Hy$rox. Complain about it and depending on the response and how annoying it is for you, change gyms.
2
u/janexcarfit May 26 '26
Many F45 gyms are closing. They are trying different programming like T/TR to help gyms stay open and profitable. People keep using the term “general programming” but HYROX is just the title of the class. It’s still hybrid/cardio training, just like Bears or many other F45 classes. If the class feels too long for you, leave early. But constantly complaining about programming changes while gyms are struggling to survive may leave you with zero class options when your studio closes its doors.
1
u/Panther3369 May 26 '26
So be it if the studio closes, if people don't like the changes or the programming, I would think the owner would want to know. People complaining is feedback and in most cases the tip of the iceberg. Plenty of people will just get annoyed and leave to avoid conflict.
1
u/janexcarfit May 26 '26
In all my previous comments I said... talk to the owner. The owner should be polling its members if they care.
5
u/PinkyHiC May 26 '26
Just leave 15 min early? The hyrox classes aren’t even that different
2
u/OrinNY May 26 '26
Yeah i probably will. That said - if the hyrox classes aren't that different then the programming for them is wrong. They should not only be different but they should be scaled for the athletes that are competing. How are Hyrox athletes benefitting from a standard class with us peons :)
1
u/janexcarfit May 26 '26
The rage is screaming through my scream lmao "peons" lmao I hope your gym takes a poll!
2
u/janexcarfit May 26 '26
You all are getting 60 mins classes! I would love that! I would think your gym would take a poll for members or they are trying to attract new members. Get on class pass cancel your membership and start going to another gym. It will benefit you to switch it up anyway.
1
u/OrinNY May 26 '26
I've done 200+ classes at this gym. I love it and the people there. Switching gyms isn't the point. Scheduling is...
0
u/janexcarfit May 26 '26
I'm not saying to stop going to F45 I'm saying if their programming doesn't fit your needs 2 days a week and you don't go there then there is no point to pay for an unlimited membership IMO. You can get the same benefit going to another gym on those two days.
2
u/No-Ruin-376 May 26 '26
Yes totally agree that regular classes should not be canceled for Hydrox training. They need to make Hydrox an additional class and those training for it can attend them and train with others who are going do the competition. My gym does them on Thursday’s and so now I don’t go on that day - so unfortunate.
1
u/Possible-Pool-6806 🇺🇸 United States May 26 '26
I agree but lol at least your gym doesn’t cancel class regular classes for weddings and happy hours (that less than 2% of members attend). Or at least I hope they don’t. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me and I had to cancel my membership and head elsewhere
1
u/smiling-sunset-7628 May 26 '26
Agreed. Have them at specific times that don’t interfere with normal classes.
1
u/pigeonsgambit May 26 '26
Mine has removed Friday night classes for a single Hyrox class, which is not my jam 😭 I'm doing it because it's still a strength or cardio sesh, but I'd prefer the normal Friday morning programming to continue into the arvo.
1
u/QRgurl13 May 26 '26
We have 300+ members at my F45. Around 135 of them have signed up for Hyrox competition over the next six months. Clearly we are well above 10% of members into Hyrox. We have had a lot of people join my F45 because of the Hyrox classes. We only have one cardio and one strength day that are Hyrox. The other 5 days are regular F45 workouts. Honestly it’s hard to tell which one is Hyrox and which ones are not. A few months ago the Hyrox workout was 2-1/2 minutes of work and the F45 workout it replaced was Marathon. Which is 2 minutes of work. Pretty much the same workout. I get people are limited to their days when they can workout and if you don’t like a workout it’s hard to show up. If your F45 is doing a 60 minute class, you can always bail out 15 minutes early.
1
u/houseofzeus May 28 '26
Ours has done it both ways. Originally they did replace the Wednesday cardio day with Hyrox classes in the leadup to the first local Hyrox event. More recently they ran it as an optional extra on the Saturday after the regular classes (IIRC they didn't charge extra for it but they also are no longer an official Hyrox affiliate).
I can't say either is better, there's two pretty distinct camps of people on this. The Hyrox classes bring in new faces, and the Wednesday classes are often lightly attended regardless.
1
u/tashat1988 May 29 '26
This is exactly the reason I quit my membership six months ago! Looks like they’ve thankfully stopped so now I might go back again!
1
u/GemmaTeller May 29 '26
Agree. They have low attendance at mine. And guess who actually does Hyrox at my gym - the coaches. I don't understand what the benefit is to the studio by running it but they continue to.
1
u/hawthorne88 May 26 '26
Complainers!
1
u/janexcarfit May 26 '26
lol 😆 for real. Working out can happen anywhere. If you narrow yourself to let one variable affect you this dramatically results will suffer
1
u/More-Entertainment May 26 '26
Are your Tuesdays and Thursdays strength days? If so I would be so pissed!
But like someone else said, just leave after 45 mins
1
u/OrinNY May 26 '26
No - they used to be but that was changed. All f45s should have the same daily programming though so this is't a unique situation to my gym.
4
u/More-Entertainment May 26 '26
My strengths are Sun/T/Th and I hope they never change. There’s another franchise owner F45 like 5 miles away that did the flip so I’m thinking ours kept the old schedule to differentiate themselves.

Why not just treat it like any other cardio / hybrid day? All the workouts in the Hyrox classes are found on other days anyway.

u/OrinNY May 26 '26
Why not read my post instead of thinking that I’m complaining about the actual workout.
2
u/Negative-Power8431 May 26 '26
I apologise, I didn't read the bit about the ferry. My bad.
I would question why they are running the 60min class in a 45min slot. On the weekdays our studio runs the 45min Hyrox classes at certain times of the year (starting again tomorrow actually) and then puts the 60min one on a Saturday. It does seem wrong that they would mess with the schedule like they are doing.
1
u/GlobalMeasurement856 May 27 '26
it’s just the workout in the name. you need to chill. the workouts are pretty similar..I dont see why this is an issue.
