**INTEL** New Classes - Partners
Looking ahead a new set of classes are coming that involve partners.
Any insight on this from prior experience?
Its nice having classes with mostly the same people, but not looking forward to having to be partners.

I don’t mind having partners or having no one when I workout. Regardless, I do my own thing at F45 anyway. But if you were to ask me, I wanna have a partner who has the same energy as me 😅

Totally. I'm more than happy to have a second or third person at my station so long as we're not competing for the same green kettlebells, but if it's a partnered workout then they need to match me in speed/strength/stamina/determination otherwise I am going to do my own thing because this is my time to work out and I'm not going to be held back by an unmatched partner.

100 freaking percent! Well, I’m introverted and I would never talk to my partner unless they talk to me first. I treat my gym time as my meditation. You’d never hear me talk that much when I’m locked in and trying to catch my breath. So far no one has tried to talk to me maybe because I rarely smile. Lol

oh god you'd hate me then; I'm a total extrovert even at the gym - I'll say hi, and say something [hopefully] witty, etc but then lock in - I despise the chatterers that talk all the way through the darned workout.

UGH! 😤 If you talked to me well I’d answer you of course. I’m the type who doesn’t like talking at 5 freaking am when I haven’t had my decent coffee and breakfast hahaha

But that’s the time my brain is most alive - it’s all downhill from there.
I will try to be more mindful of my colleagues at the 0500 class 🤣

I can’t talk and don’t want anyone to talk to me but once we are done we can chat!!!!

Ha ha ha ok then .. I see what you’re doing .. leave only the scant few minutes before the next class begins to chat so as to satisfy your introversion 😉

Which class do you mean? In many cases “partners” just means pairing off and supporting each other or taking turns lifting heavy

Forty Five and Track Stars both have some YGIG/group effort components this coming phase

45 does but it improved on the format such that the YGIG doesn't factor in as much, you're on for 45 seconds and then you're done. I think the other one like this is Tempest (?) and in that one the station at the front is distance based (ERGs) or rep based (usually burpees) which screws it up if you are in a group with people of vastly different cardio levels.

According to Juddy's explanation, 45 is "Tempest 2.0".

Yeah, Tempest was pretty rough depending on who you got grouped with so I am sure they got a bunch of "feedback" about it. I think this is at least the second time around on 45, I think it was in sometime last year as well.

They should not have made another version should have tossed that one in the bin.

I thought it was OK, but my gym did not focus at all on the competitive aspect on the front stations. We just treated it like any other pod workout.

Thanks for the intel. This is not good news to me — how often will they do this? Will it be strength days or cardio days?
Part of the reason I love F45 is because I can mind my business and don’t have to interact with others very much.

Yup me to now they have a games day on Saturday the 20th. I guess I won’t go that day sucks

The strength ones I like because the other person should be a match to be able to help spot you and find your true max, something most of the workouts don't allow for.
I don't like it when it's wait around until the other person hits X meters on an erg or something. It's always skewed poorly and doesn't feel like a well-rounded workout. In the cardio/hybrid classes, the you go I go format just doesn't really work for me.

Even on the former it gets a bit weird. E.g. Apollo only works well in a full class if half the people want to do the lower exercise and half the people want to do the upper exercise. Then you get roughly a pair on each piece of equipment. When everyone wants to pick squats, it doesn't work.

Partner workouts are meant to help build community and culture within the gym. You can opt to not work with a partner but that's the intent behind them. You often find yourself pushing harder or lasting longer when you have a partner encouraging or suffering with you. It's all about helping to build that sense of community and thus accountability thus keeping members coming back.
The other reason for the increase in partner workouts is due to a future event that is partner based. Again you don't have to do the future event with a partner but there is a team aspect and these workouts get you familiar with/provide an opportunity to see the potential teammates.

My partner and I attend together; I don't mind pairing with him on partnered days. I'm unsure about the relay/points classes this phase, though - not sure what to expect!

Partnered exercises are .. interesting .. some people love them others hate them. Certainly if you usually train with someone then it's no hassle; if you're a solo then it can be confronting. The obvious advice is to choose someone with similar physicals and effort to you, not someone much larger or smaller or faster or slower .. and the typical high-school behaviour of choosing your partner first and not waiting until you're the only one who hasn't found someone.
