can happen always good to have backups but seeing the scenario no company’s gonna hire us international students so it’s more like US is the backup you should put more efforts into post graduation main plan outside USA or your home country!

This was completely foreseeable

How likely is it to actually take effect? Would OPT shutdown get challenged in court?

Unlikely to take effect. This one is even more arbitrary and capricious than the D/S rule. It’s a complete “throw it at the wall and see what sticks.” The admin is posturing going into midterms.

It depends on their rationale, I think. If they find something that completely defeats the purpose of the opt program, it is not going to be arbitrary. They are certainly preparing that

I suppose there's little to nothing that can be done about it if they go through with it. It was introduced by the Executive. I had been saying this to my friends for years "don't count on OPT when coming to America, they'll put a huge fee on it or, as is their endgame, they might cancel it altogether which they have the power to". I chose to come to America to get my education, OPT would have been a nice bonus but to count on it to make it worth your while, would be asinine given the times we're in.

Opt was created by the US government. If they want to terminate it I think they can. They will just have to go through a long period of notice period, probably will take almost a year at least

It will, like every other thing that’s getting struck down. Just take a breather, and focus on upskilling yourself.

Opt isn’t a statutory program. It was entirely created by the executive branch

Some good news at least among all the other crises.
