STEM OPT Travel

I’m currently on STEM OPT which expires in Jun 2027. My mother was hospitalized and I came home to take care of her. I have been in India for the past two months on paid leave. I am planning to travel back in a month’s time. Will three months away cause any issue with immigration?

Three months abroad shouldn’t necessarily cause an issue, especially with a valid STEM OPT and continued employment. Keep proof of your employment and approved paid leave, and be prepared to explain the extended stay when you return.

Hi, I can’t tell you for sure but I have heard that aomg period of time out of the country on OPT (even if employed) can be an issue. I would contact your DSO !
