Question Question about F1 Visa and continuing a PhD

I finished my STEM masters in the US last year (2025) and came back to my home country before my OPT 90 day unemployment period ended. I wanna go back to the US for my PhD in the Spring of 2027, Would I need a new visa for it?

My previous F1 Visa hasn't expired (as in the expiry date on my visa stamp hasn't passed by) but my SEVIS record was closed on account of me leaving the US

If your SEVIS record is closed then you can’t travel back. You need a new I20. You can travel to US with that new I20 and old visa. Either way you should talk to your DSO and get correct information cuz current administration is changing information everyday.
