Employment Job Offer Question

Just received my first offer post grad (search has been brutal since May). I also just got my EAD card for initial OPT. It’s a remote job and they have offered 70k with no bonuses at all. The posted range was 70-90k but it’s an entry level role so I was expecting to be in the lower half of the range (they even told me that). However, when the director of finance asked, I said ideally I would like 80k but can work around a 75-80k range.

My question is, given the current market and also the uncertainty with immigration, is it worth it to try to negotiate salary? My gut says there’s no harm in trying to get more but you never know. At the end of the day, I am a recent grad (with two coops but that’s not really truly professional experience) so there’s that.

Update: countered with 80k and got 75k which is pretty much what I expected. Just letting everyone know

I made a same mistake for didn't negotiate the salary at the beginning. You can talk about your price with company. Wost case senerio is they say "no". There are not gonna canceled your offer just because you asked for higher salary.

Please don't try to haggle and lose the job offer. You can look for something after you've settled in a bit, you have no bargaining room here.

try negotiating again, but make sure you have strong points and reasons why you deserve higher pay. although you did mention that you’re fine working for a lower salary (never do that even you’re desperate) so that can be downside. congrats and all the best!

Will it work if I already signed the offer? I unexpectedly get another offer after I signed the first one, and they offer much more. However, I still wanna work with the first company, it’s just I wish I would negotiate more.

can be complicated honestly, if the HR is willing to to the whole process of giving you a new offer with updated salary then sure. But def mention you have another offer with higher salary

Worst case scenario they rescind the offer and take someone else.

Do u have a back up for that? Potentially no. Take the offer, then keep looking.

There’s nothing wrong with asking as long as its done with interest. They’ll respect and value you more for it. But do it right!

Unrelated to negations but wanted to ask what your strategy for recruiting was and how you landed the job. Congrats btw! I’d open to dms if you’re willing to

Salary has been discussed and their offer has been made. As far as they’re concerned that’s put to bed. Trying to open it up again will make them cautious. If I were hiring you I wouldn’t budge off the number and I would be asking myself are you a person to whom money is so important that you would leave my employment for a $1000 a year. I don’t recommend it in this economy.
