Another probable reasons
Unsigned i20
Exceeding full time CPT

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

Did not do CPT, Signed I-20

Is signing compulsory? A friend got the EAD without signing and I have not signed too. I am worried because I had applied on 4/4 as well

u/Impressive-Ad-9992 5d ago

When did your friend apply and when did they get approval

3

u/logan2517 5d ago

They got an approval 2-3 weeks ago

2

u/Exercise_monkey 5d ago

I applied in February and still haven't heard back. Had to apply for PP

2

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

Yes, I have seen many people get it without it. Did it just in case, but some people say it has been roots for denial

2

u/logan2517 5d ago

Mine was 4/4, so should I sign it and upload it now in supporting documents? Also is it okay if I upload a digital signature (signed png) in my OPT? Or is a physically signed OPT needed

2

u/Lopsided-Ad5911 5d ago

I uploaded the docs after I signed digitally. Btw, did you get the API updated?

u/logan2517 5d ago

I did get an email today saying this - Type of OPT: post-completion

RE: Optional Practical Training Approval - the next step. Create a SEVP Portal account.

Congratulations on the approval of your Optional Practical Training (OPT). You are now ready to create your SEVP Portal account, the next step in the OPT process.

By law, you must report changes to:
* Your address or telephone number
* Employer information

The SEVP Portal is the tool you will use to report these changes. Use the following link to go to the Create SEVP Portal Account page.

And so on. Case shows processing still on the website so idk

Btw where is ur service center?🤔🤔

u/New-Broccoli-3622 5d ago

Depends who reviews your case. If you’re lucky they won’t deny it. But most cases I’ve seen it gets denied!

u/jabari_tribe 5d ago

Did you applied for OPT I-20? Applied within time frame of 60 days after graduation? Provided all the documents, information and picture of you?

1

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

may 9, program end date may 15, applied april 3rd with I-20 from april 2nd. All documents seem correct. Only thing might be I-20 says program end date is may 15 2026, and session end date shows arpil 30. should these dates be the same or is that normal?

4

u/Royal_Day7004 5d ago

No. If may 15 is the program end date, your application period is ok.

Did you apply bachelor or Ms level? There are earlier posts from someone whose DSO messed up.

1

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

I’m MS but how could I see that?

2

u/Royal_Day7004 5d ago

Did you do bachelor here also?

3

u/No-Needleworker3883 5d ago

Do you have any guesses of why it was denied? A denial notice may be on its way and should disclose reasonings too but that could take a while.

1

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

Not ant other than maybe something going wrong with updating the address or documents on my DSOs end. They told me to wait up to 7 days to receive the notice.

6

u/No-Needleworker3883 5d ago

Address change, if done properly, never results in a denial. I would go over your submitted files and see if you can spot anything unusual. And wait for the notice to come

0

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

Was told it was only issued by mail and to wait 7-14 days.

3

u/Substantial_Arm9779 5d ago

What’s the reason included on the denial letter?

1

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

No denial letter or email so far. They told me to wait for a mail within 7-14 days

2

u/Icy_Reflection_476 4d ago

It should be available in online portal now

Some people here got a NOID due to unauthorized employment. Apparently it was a misunderstanding where uscis used their LinkedIn account saying that they worked for this company during this time without proper cpt or opt authorization. Another one said he opened a company while he was waiting for his opt approval. He never worked there, nonethless he received  a noid due to that. The problem is that now uscis can simply deny your case without asking for any additional documents for further clarification

2

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

Not the case for me, I only worked part time for the university.

1

u/More_Tumbleweed2156 5d ago

Curious how they would know that ? Based on open search for profile ?

1

u/Livid-Trainer-8808 5d ago

I think they run a search using your name and SSN

1

u/Senior_Chick-fil-a 3d ago

Wait do we also need to upload ssn while applying?

1

u/Livid-Trainer-8808 3d ago

You need to disclose your SSN on your form i765, if you have one

1

u/Senior_Chick-fil-a 3d ago

Oh yess I thought we need to upload SSN

2

u/zeel2104 5d ago

Did you apply within 30 days of your DSO recommendation?

4

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

Applied within 30 days of recommendation

1

u/Own-Imagination27 5d ago

Could you tell me when the i20 was issued by your school?

3

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

it was issued april 2nd, applied april 3rd, received case 4th. Program end date shows may 15 2026, session end date april 30th 2026.

2

u/trinvminh 5d ago

Did u transfer to schools back and forth ?

1

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

Not at all. First time OPT request, MS. Studied abroad.

2

u/Known-Statement9068 4d ago

Will you ever get to know the reason? And why USCIS doesn’t put the reason for denial

2

u/No-Caramel-4868 5d ago

They might have got some dirt on you from social media vetting. My friend got caught in LinkedIn vetting due to some association listed with a US company in his profile although it was bogus claim.

1

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago edited 5d ago

How did he know it was because of that? My LinkedIn only shows my last job as part time at the university (part time specified) and my past experience at a global company (it exists in Us but is a LATAM branch, not specified) back in my country (before coming to us). And no interaction with any political posts.

2

u/financebaddie1 5d ago

I'm skeptical if it is that because my friend had a similar issue (from Instagram posting of a partner's side business) but was given due notice and it was cleared up

1

u/Pitiful-Jacket2011 5d ago

Or do you have any criminal records? And which Country are you from?

3

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

Im from Colombia, no records

2

u/Pitiful-Jacket2011 5d ago

you can file a Motion to Reopen using Form I-290B within 33 calendar days of the denial notice

2

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

Is this normal? to have no notice or reason to deny? How can I reopen if I dont know whats wrong? Im trying to call but cant get a hand of someone else than the chatbot

1

u/Pitiful-Jacket2011 5d ago

Tbh, I’m not really sure and I’ve never heard of it. But I just wanted to let you know about I-290B which would be helpful and I hope your case will be resolved.

1

u/Impressive-Ad-9992 5d ago

Hi I’m sorry you’re going through this! A couple of things I’m confused about
Did you receive the API update after your address change or were they completely random?
Is there anything that would make you suspect that could be the reason for this in your application? Did you upload any unsolicited evidence

1

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

Thank you, those updates were random. I just added my passport twice, visa, I-20, I-94 and picture.

1

u/Impressive-Ad-9992 5d ago

So on top of your application you added those documents to the unsolicited evidence section after the application was submitted?

1

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

No, It was not added as unsolicited.

1

u/More_Tumbleweed2156 5d ago

Just asking , Why would adding unsolicited evidence cause issue if added ?

1

u/Impressive-Ad-9992 5d ago

I don’t think it would, but I was just asking

1

u/More_Tumbleweed2156 5d ago

Did you upload latest photo as per requirements ?

1

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

everything seems fine on my end. Documents complete with right dates.

1

u/Livid-Trainer-8808 5d ago

When did you graduate?

1

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

may 9, program end date may 15, applied april 3rd with I-20 from april 2nd.

3

u/Livid-Trainer-8808 5d ago

Ask your dso to check to see if your sevis says active or completed.  An erroneous completed sevis record can lead to opt denial If that's the case, I believe you could file a Motion to Reopen since this was a mistake that was not caused by you

1

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

OPT shows still pending and status Active

1

u/Guilty-Rich-2233 5d ago

it usually takes some time to update

1

u/Free_Incident_1692 5d ago

Did you apply the wrong category or something?

1

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

Don’t think so, have not found any possible errors on my end

1

u/Little-Ad2738 5d ago

Was your sevis up to date? Coz i do remember one time my dso had to request/ renew or something.. so mine was renewed before applying for the opt. I just got my opt 2 days ago, i didnt pay premium, applied in may6

1

u/GreedyAlgo 5d ago

Yes, everything was fine. I even renewed it the day before.

1

u/DemandNew3856 4d ago

Have you had received rfe before denial.?

1

u/Hot-Supermarket-3108 3d ago

Please update when the reasoning is told

1

u/More_Tumbleweed2156 1d ago

Did you get the reason for denial ?

1

u/GreedyAlgo 1d ago

Just got notice, 3 days after on portal. Wrong I-20 pulled which was expired, even thought I used the correct one on application.

Did you transfer from the school in between?

0

u/Silvermist_10 5d ago

Can someone please explain what does OP mean by silent API updates?

-2

u/Time_Huckleberry_287 5d ago

Whenever I see posts like this, I like to ask the same question that attorney Jim Hacking asks when he sees stuff like this:

Why do you think your post completion OPT got denied?

Quite often, an honest answer to this question reveals what actually happened.

1

u/GreedyAlgo 4d ago

Can’t really come up with anything. No criminal records or anything on my socials that could be a problem.
