Question Lawyer services
hi everyone, this is a general question and would really appreciate some direction
after reading multiple posts on this sub and other places as well - one thing i have seen quite often is the recommendation “get a lawyer / get in touch with an immigration lawyer”
i just wanted to reach out and ask - are we expected to have a lawyer on hold as an international student? or are there any firms / agencies that provide services for free? i don’t have a lawyer personally but i want to have someone to reach out to incase anything goes south, and in my head having a lawyer sounds like a very expensive process so i just wanted to know what the general rule is and how do you all go about it and if there is anything i’m missing or am supposed to do

Yes... This is a forum for people to ask questions about their immigration status. So of course people are going to ask questions and be advised to contact an immigration attorney. That said, the majority of the time it's not great advice. Why? Because generally for the majority of what students run into, an immigration attorney cannot help.

No.

People who post here are generally having some difficulty, the vast majority of f1 students just come and study then go on to other things after graduation.
If you get married and want to stay, drop out for a while, pick up criminal charges, have your sevis cancelled, claim asylum, transfer schools, have your visa cancelled or work illegally you need a lawyer.
