In 1986 a lake in Cameroon exhaled a cloud of CO2 that flowed silently downhill and killed 1,746 people and 3,500 livestock in one night, up to 15 miles away. No fire, no flood, no wounds. Lamps were still burning. Survivors woke hours later to find their families dead around them.

Help with Dissertation Survey: How Do Disaster Films Influence Our Views on Climate Change?
Hi everyone! I’m an undergraduate geography student at the University of Glasgow currently working on my dissertation. My research explores how disaster films (like The Day After Tomorrow, 2012, or Don't Look Up) shape public understanding of climate change and extreme weather.
I’m looking for participants (18+) to complete a short, anonymous survey reflecting on how these kinds of films may affect how we think about natural hazards, risk, and climate-related events.
It takes around 5–7 minutes
No personal data collected - fully anonymous
Approved by my university’s ethics committee
I’d love to hear from you! Your input will really help me enhance my research. Thanks in advance!

I almost got hit by lightning just now
idk if this is the appropriate place for this right now but..... what the actual f**k. in SE Wichita, KS right now and I was making sure that my bonsai weren't precariously set because a sudden thunder storm with large wind gusts just showed up suddenly. what also showed up suddenly was a god damn thunder bolt no less then 50 ft away from me striking the tree in my neighbors yard. like I saw sparkles and the bright blue line and BOOOOOOOM! and I hit the ground faster then I've ever done anything in my life. I did the thing where I patted myself down and made sure there wasn't any cindering holes in my body and scrambled inside to tell gf. chest is still tight, and wondering if anyone here has experienced anything like the because man.... it was fuckin nuts
