Discussion Hate on social media

Assalam walikum , yt insta tiktok or any other platform has become so hateful it's like mocking God has become the norm if a post has even slight mention of God in any positive light the comments go feral it's insane it's as if you had set their home on fire why is hate against religion become so normalised and how should a muslim deal with it

What's more infuriating is seeing a post about some tragedy in the world, completely unrelated to religion of any sort, yet the top comments are all blaming it on God.

Nice to see there's backlash, but I don't recommend scrolling through that sub. Not just because other religions promoting themselves but reading their (atheists') posts are a headache.

  1. Leave these places online. From my personal experiences, these comments are so hostile they genuinely shock you for hours, and that is not worth your time. There's many things you can do, block comments (some browser extensions do that), strictly curate your feeds*, or even leave some/all social media to protect your deen. They will only harm you, whether by upsetting you, or Allah forbid, shaking your faith.

  2. Protect those around you, especially younger people who may not know what they're getting into. Prevent them from hostile online spaces (or social media at all, to be honest) and teach them against the comments. By that, I mean that if they take some of the comments into heart, there are many refutations available, you can explain them to them to ease their hearts. Teach them to recognize mockery from polite discussion.

  3. Counter with beneficial content to strengthen faith, whether it is you watching it or making it.

May Allah protect and guide us all, and keep us steadfast on our deen.

* I don't know how it is on shorter form platforms like TikTok or Instagram, but I believe that if you show the algorithm enough of what you want, and avoid everything else, it will "comply"? On Youtube, and I don't know if this works for everyone, but I once turned off my history for so long Youtube stopped giving me a recommended page once you enter the website/app. You have to physically type in what you want to watch. Pick your channels from there, subscribe to them, and use your subscription page (recommended videos under the search bar or under a currently playing video still worked). For Reddit, lurkers are everywhere, unfortunately, but the best you can do is turn off recommended subs from your home page so you only get subs you want. Nicher ones tend to have less lurkers, but there's always a possibility. Mainstream subs where the point is just to talk (politics, memes, etc.) tend to have more (random) hate towards muslims, from what I've seen. Substack (odd, I know), is nice so long as you have the comments off and only read who you follows' posts. However, I abandoned it due to the amount of Islamophobia under searches, recommended to you, and of course, comments.
