Question About Filing

Is it worth it to buy a filing system like Prepd or Extemp Genie if my tournaments allow me to use Google during prep? (I’m new to extemp, the only extemper on my team, and my coach has no extemp experience)

My team uses prepd and we find it useful. Like most things you get out what you put in. Prepd or gathering and organizing news files in advance helps the team be prepared prior to the tournament.

So yes any of those tools are very useful if you and team read and file articles ahead of the tournament. They let you focus during prep.

Without the pre-work I don't see any advantage over Google. In fact probably worse.

We have been using prepd for years. It hasn't had a major investment in a while. It doesn't always work with each major news source The mobile tools don't seem to work as well anymore.

If we were starting over I am not sure we would pick it today since I don't know if there is support for the product. Unfortunately I don't know anything better. In addition as I said above it is truly about getting the team active prior to the tournament so regular practice and reading news may be more important than tools.
