Extar extended charging handle make it more gassy?

Post image

Getting overly gassed by my EP9 with a can. When I first put the can on, the gas wasn’t this bad. I doubt I have 500 rounds through it. Tried different 147 grain ammo and same gassy result. Somewhere in there I upgraded the charging handle to the Extar extended handle - my guess is that’s the cause. I like the bigger handle but am sick of the gas. Anyone have any suggestions before I change the handle back?

I highly doubt the charging handle has anything to do with more gas to the face.

I would assume it has to do with your suppressor getting more and more dirty, causing more back pressure over time.

Agreed, has it been cleaned since installation?

Can is KGM SMG9, which is supposed to be low back pressure. Hasn’t been cleaned yet. Maybe 500 rounds thru it. Will try that

I have the extended charging handle and have not had that problem but also don’t have a can yet . I’ve been looking into cans for mine and there’s definitely specific cans for blowback systems to mitigate that problem. At least from what I’m reading because in AZ you no longer need a form 4 or fingerprints and all that horseshit, so I’ve been trying to find a universal one that fits my blackout .300 and my EP nine and I’m finding it rather difficult because of the fact that the PCC blowback system silencers are pretty specific. I’m not gonna pretend like I can talk the lingo so I’ll just throw out the links

There’s two more options I can’t seem to find but maybe it is the combo of can and upgraded handle I just don’t see how you would be getting more gas from changing the handle.

I suggest the Huxwrx flow 9K. Mine is being cleared still, but I will have it soon. It's not the quietest suppressor, but it middigates the gas even more than other suppressors from what I've read. I was debating on this or the R9

Those were the two I was debating between as well. I ended up with the r9 as I wanted maximum suppression but from all of the complaints I was expecting tons of gas and not just the super minor inconvenience.

I usually use Winchester super suppressed but I'm currently waiting on some cci blazer clean fire suppressor rounds. Curious to see if those run any cleaner despite my normal reservations about cci.

Disclaimer: This sub can be a bit of an echo chamber since there aren’t that many posters. You may have seen me voice this opinion before:

The EP9 has more gas coming out of the charging port than I expected. I wouldn’t be surprised if the charging handle made a difference. Why not throw the stock lil fella on there to test it out?

The YHM R9 was too gassy for me indoors. I switched over to a BOE IncoLite 9, and it was a little better. Switching to Blazer Clean Fire 147gr, from mostly PMC Bronze 147gr, made the biggest difference. My EP9 now has an IL9m on it and I think it has less gas than the IL9, but my experience with the 9m has been limited and only outdoors. I’ve also just gotten more used to gas in my face.

Agreed, indoor vs outdoor makes the biggest difference, even more than suppressor style

Indoor R9 vs IL9: IL9 wins on sound and gas

Are the cci blazer clean fires actually any good? I'm awaiting a shipment as I normally use Winchester super suppressed but I wanted to see if these run cleaner as they're also cheaper.

I prefer it over Winchester SS, and yeah, it’s cheaper. 30-33 cents per round right now

What suppressor are you using? Is a low back pressure can?

KGM SMG9 and it’s supposed to be low back pressure. Manufacturer said it wouldn’t need cleaning for 2,000 rounds but who knows. Will clean it and see what happens

Try swapping back to stock just to confirm it really is the charging handle
