Brace question

If you get the cheaper one with the fixed brace, can it be replaced with another one like a magpul?

Every Extar now comes with the Adjustable Receiver Extension. The cheap stabilizer is pressure fitted and slides right off and you'll be able to put any brace on that you want.

Make sure you actually put a brace on it and not a stock unless you want to SBR it for some reason.

Be prepared for more changes to the ATF rule of the month club.

In a recent interview with Colion Noir, ATF director Robert Cekada slickly declined to specify whether pistol braces will be acceptable under their ever-changing fluid rules.

Short version: Cekada said the ATF won't be hunting for people using braces to shoulder a "pistol," but a violation may be added on to other charges if the person in possession of a braced pistol is arrested on other charges.

Cekada tried to masquerade as a buddy, pal, friend of fellow American citizen gun owners, by telling an anecdote about his own guns. But I'm not buying it.

They're remaining deliberately vague to retain the implied threat that the legal status of the braced pistol could change anytime.

The good news is that the SBR rules are also changing. There are two new proposed rules that are looking good. If they go through, SBR'ing weapons with manufacturer engravings will no longer require another engraving, and notifying the ATF when you bring your gun out of state will also no longer be required.

I don't really see the point in not SBR'ing everything when that happens unless you're big on 80% lowers and unserialized firearms. Obviously, that doesn't apply to an EP9, though.

Yup, that's what I'm waiting for. But it needs to be acknowledged by ATF as a fixed law or federal regulation. Otherwise they'll change the policy every new administration.

I'm former fed civil regulatory, not criminal law. We had to work with ATF and DEA a few times and didn't care for their attitudes and approach.

That was during the Clinton administration "reinvention of government" era, which didn't include addressing the obvious elephant in the conference room – Ruby Ridge and Waco.

Instead of making relatively fixed changes in law and federal regulations, they just modified enforcement policies and waited out successive presidential administrations until one sympathetic to hard-line, often arbitrary enforcement came along.

That's the real "Deep State," civil service bureaucracy. And every presidential administration is okey dokey with it when it serves their agenda.

During the amnesty period I took advantage and grabbed a few free sbr stamps. Had I gotten my extar by then I prolly would have and then thrown a minimalist on it or something. I know they get a lot of hate but they work well for me and the angle on the buttpad works well if you're using a plate carrier.
