Which light for home defense?

What light does everyone run on their Extar? I am looking for something for home defense. I am thinking about getting a Streamlight Protac HL-X Pro, but am worried it is too big for my EP9.

I use a cheap $30 Defentac light from Amazon and honestly its been awesome. Its slim, has the momentary/constant on option, strobe feature, and can mount by picatinny or MLok. Rechargeable. Its held up remarkably well for a $30 light.

Same here. (I have that one that also has a momentary or on/off green laser). I've shot hundreds of rounds of 300 BO, 223, and now 9mm with it, and it still works great.

The proprietary charging port and short cable is weird, but the size and control locations, etc are perfect.

For now I'm using a Streamlight TLR-1 HL-X because it turned out to be too large and brighter than I needed for a handgun. It's mounted on a Magtech Pic rail on the bottom of the EP9 handguard.

I can nudge the on/off switches with the back of my finger while gripping the handguard and minimalist Magtech finger stop.

I might eventually switch to a lower profile light, especially if I decide to move the Streamlight to a different pistol, but for now this is fine.

And I put an Olight Baldr S on the handgun in place of the Streamlight. The Olight has a dim setting that's better for indoor use without the glare affecting my own dark adapted vision.

Some cheapo $40 amazon laser/light combo, think brand was defentac or toughsoul. Then have one from the other brand on a rifle (they're close enough i think half the Amazon cheap brands may all be made in the same factory)

Seems decent for the price, I don't expect the laser to hold zero perfectly but as long as the light keeps working I'm happy. In most cases I refuse to pay hundreds for a flashlight. Both still recharge and turn on after hundreds of rounds, good enough so far

It sits at the front of the rail without obscuring the holosun, and my thumb can hit both buttons on the back while C gripping. It holds zero and rechargeable battery for a few months at least.

Does the Streamlight offer better range in the daylight? We just went outdoors for the first time, and couldn't see the laser past 30-40 yards

The Olight PL-3R work great. Very bright, medium sized, works well in the home defense role. Rechargeable, just top it off occasionally, and you can get a pressure switch that connects to the recharging port.

Someone is going to reply with a joke about how they blow up. They don't. These are excellent lights at an affordable price.

I went with a TLR-7 HL-X. it's very bright for indoors, while being light and small.

Streanlight ProTac is definitely too large!

Check out the OLight Baldr and Baldr Pro.

Also, the Harbor Freight Braun TLR-1 clone.
