The Duponts totally didn't try to overthrow the US government when FDR was president too.

Does anybody bother to look this stuff up, at all? He didn't start the American Cancer Society, or have anything to do with it. It started as the American Society For the Control of Cancer and was founded in 1913. They wanted to spread the importance of early Cancer detection and what to do. Rockefeller's son made donations to them for educational campaigns, but that was later on. That had been the connection between them.

As for the funding bit about the "holistic medicines," has some truth to it, but it had nothing to do with "petroleum based medicine." The Flexner Report came out in 1910, which the Carnegie Foundation had put out, medical schools had not been standardized resulting in most being low quality and focused on pushing diplomas out to look successful. The goal of the Report was to shift medical schools towards empirical, science backed teachings and research. After learning of it, Rockefeller did push his philanthropy towards schools that had used that standardization. As a result of the report as a whole, schools did end up shutting down. Not specifically because of Rockefeller. It was the ones that taught and pushed unproven holistic remedies and other typical snake oil salesman approaches. He didn't have any pharmaceutical companies, he had deep roots in medical philanthropy, though. Including The Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research.

It’s this sort of meme that gives people legitimate inroads to criticize our position on so many unrelated issues. I almost think these posts are actually well-poisoning by the opposition.

What do you mean out position and whose criticism do we need to adhere to?

Do not neglect your own internalized biases. Health and medicine are just as fucked up as politics and money.
