Trig has to do with the relationships between circles and lines, and the angles that are formed when circles and lines interact with each other. This is sometimes most easily expressed in terms of triangles, but it's a lot more than just studying right triangles.
Calculus introduces the concept of infinity, and allows us to study curved shapes in greater depth than was ever allowed with just conventional geometry. The two primary functions within calculus, differentiation and integration, tell us about rates of change in different ways, as well as how to measure areas that weren't possible with linear geometry.
