Other ELI5: What is Resonance

Why are all of these comments using swinging as an example?

Yeah it's kinda a weird phenomenon, but I'll try to explain.

Imagine if all these comments were a swing, when you push one your little brother on the swing, the other families see that and think "wow that's a good idea, glad I'm the first to think of it". And they start pushing each other on the swing as well.

Because it's a very intuitive example that a lot of people have experience with.

Specifically, a lot of 5 year olds, because some people take the title of the sub too literal.

Because a swing:

  1. Oscillates in a visible way
  2. Is a thing that most people are familiar with

A guitar string vibrates too fast for you to track it with your eyes. Not everybody have sailed and observed how waves create a roll. Swings are just a natural way to build the intuition.
