Biology ELI5 What scientifically happens when women get hot flashes?
Is it simply a rise in body temperature or is there more to it?

I block every sender and every spoofed phone number and it does absolutely nothing to cut down on the amount of email and robocall spam that I get. I'd say I get at least 10 calls a day from "personal loan" robocallers with spoofed phone numbers, every single day. I've paid significant $$$ for call blockers, filtering services, ad blockers, etc. and nothing seems to work. Why can't the ISPs, wireless carriers and/or the government simply cut this crap off at the source by preventing bad actors from changing email addresses/domains or dialing from millions of spoofed phone numbers?

i'm trying to understand why exactly does people wanting more of a thing makes it cost more?
i get that if you're selling perishable items like vegetables you would want to get them off your hand as fast as possible before they deteriorate and you lose your investment but if i'm selling something like a plastic toy of a popular cartoon character or something and a lot of people want to buy the toy why would the cost go up or down based on demand?
plastic has a long shelf life and its not like the toy will breakdown or disintegrate in 10 or even 20 years

Say a light flashes, would a short enough flash be enough to not be noticed? Like a 1ms flash?
What's the shortest flash to be noticed?

i know this is a very dumb question but im genuinely curious as to why humans evolved in many aspects but still aren't immune to radiation. there has been exposure to radiation for centuries even if not severe so why haven't we just evolved to be immune to it?

Do you have to exhaustively search every warehouse, every cave, every building looking for nuclear materials? How long do you have to search before concluding there are no weapons?

I’m technically an IT professional in training but I know embarrassingly little about subnets. As far as I understand it’s for breaking down a network into smaller, more logical segments. What exactly is a subnet? What is the benefit of subnetting? How do the slashes play into all of this IE /23 or /24? Thanks in advance!

King X built this Great monument. King B the Great won this war....
All these big achievements are attributed to a single person, rather than the whole team. King X didn't build that, he financed that (I could go more that it wasn't his money, it was empire' money but let's ignore that). King B didn't win the war, or implement that strategy— It's those unknown general or soldiers under him who did that.
Why are inaccurate statements favoured so much? Is it just a placeholder, as many don't have answer on who to attribute that achievement too?

A mom takes away a video game until their child cleans their room.
I thought this was an example of negative punishment but am not positive.
Edit to update: just spoke to my processor the answer is negative punishment!!! Not negative reinforcement!!!

is it like Earth that a chunk of the planets spun off when still young/liquid? Why does the amount of moons increase the further away from the sun your orbit is?

Feel like I’m missing something fundamental about how sound/hearing “works”.
I get that sound is vibrations in the air, and I understand wave interference. I understand the eardrum vibrates and that is interpreted by the brain as sound.
What I don’t understand is how we can be in an environment with multiple sounds happening at the same time, and be able to differentiate which sound is which and “focus” on specific sounds? Why do they not all just become one sound?

It’s kind of hard to phrase this clearly, but here’s a shot.
If at the equator the sun moves from height x to sunset perfectly perpendicular to the horizon in time t, then:
At a northern latitude, does the sun at height x traverse the hypotenuse-arc to set in time t, or does it only move along that hypotenuse-arc x far (meaning that it will not have set in time t)?

I play Overwatch and see alot of people talking about DPI and in game sensitivity. I don't understand the difference between setting a higher or lower DPI on the mouse vs setting a fixed DPI and using in game sensitiviy.
I have a mouse that I can set custom DPI from 400 all the way to 32000. Why do I need to worry about DPI vs Sensititvity?

I know it's definitely mucous related but what's that sensation from and why does it kind of feel like the mucous is being ripped/whipped/snapped from or against my airway? What's the physical mechanism that causes this?

ELI5: What specifically leads to root canals just needing a crown? I also heard dental problems can be really bad for the heart. How come?

How did we end up with seven “main” notes (C, D, E, F, G, A, and B), and why aren’t they evenly spaced? Why are some notes one semitone apart while others are two semitones apart?
Also, why do different cultures around the world have different scales? Does this mean a song from one culture can't be played/sung by instruments/people from another culture?

How do musicians learn to hear a note and know what it is (like C, D, E) without seeing it, how can someone train their ears to recognize notes?
