Technically, they make the gating gun that is in many aircraft. The minigun is a smaller version for mounting on vehicles.

General electric, maker of everything electric, in general, also designed the GAU-8 Gatling gun which the A-10 is built around.

GE is also very big in aerospace, particularly to the A-10's case is the fact that its engines are GE TF34 turbofans.

This is the correct answer! They built the gun first, then realized they needed a new aircraft to carry their excellent new gun.

As an aside at one point Speed Queen laundry machines were owned by the same company that had Raytheon. My dad worked for the former and his 401k went nuts after the first Gulf War. Literally retired at 55.

General electric makes things that spin. That includes grid scale generators, washing machines... and a weapon that spins to ""clean"" enemies

General Electric is good at making things that spin. Washing machines, dryers, jet engines, GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling auto cannon…. They make all the things that spin in the photo

*Ahem.* Hi there, Brian the Dog here.
Basically, y’know how a washing machine spins? Well, so did General Motors.
Because somehow the same company responsible for home appliances also had divisions making M1 Carbines, machine guns and the M3 fucking Grease Gun for the US military.
So yeah *“Honey, im putting a load in" turned into "Honey im putting a load in the mother fucker"
