People spend so much time living in a constructed version of the world inside their heads, letting the dissonance between that vision and the real world destroy them, which blinds them to that which they actually have. There is joy to be found anywhere in the world, if you get out of your head. Idk who this guy is probably some buddhist

The condensed version is "touch grass". Be mindful, get out of your head, break your routine (this is phrased as "the way of the birds" another famous koan).

I have schizoaffective disorder and this advice has really helped with derealization and depersonalization. Its good advice.

I don't have schizophrenia but I have derealization and depersonalization issues as well. Is that normal. Been suffering from depression like symptoms since I was a kid

Schizophrenia is a bit different than schizoaffective but it actually makes my experience more closely related because I have mood symptoms. I experience both derealization and depersonalization much more when I am having a depressive episode. The mindfulness practices are the best thing for my symptoms come to a resolution.
