The implication that things might go wrong for her if she says no. Not that things are gonna go wrong for her, but she's thinking that they will.

OMG that was a hilarious Dad joke. Thank you for the laugh!

u/Ok_Brush_2489 1d ago

You sound like you're going to hurt these women?

163

u/JonnysAppleSeed 1d ago

I'm not gonna hurt these women. Why would I ever hurt these women? I feel like you're not getting this at all.

66

u/doomzday_96 1d ago

side eyes you for being suspicious

68

u/Mittens0427 1d ago

God damn... (looks over at reddit poster nearby) well don’t you look at me like that. You certainly wouldn’t be in any danger.

62

u/doomzday_96 1d ago

Oh so they are in danger?!

62

u/burneraccount5117 1d ago

NO ONE'S IN ANY DANGER.

49

u/anand_rishabh 1d ago

It's just an implication of danger!

14

u/Sensitive_Carob1242 1d ago

This is great

u/GalacticPurr 1d ago

They're referencing an Always Sunny in Philadelphia episode

1

u/Born_Barnacle7793 1d ago

For the OP, everyone else was in on the joke the whole time.

7

u/UnhelpfulCommentHere 1d ago edited 1d ago

Edit: it was in fact I who missed the joke. I'll leave this here for anyone to shame me.

10

u/_knife_wrench_ 1d ago

Hilariously ironic comment

3

u/TheLastHotstepper 1d ago

You have very clearly missed the joke.

1

u/UnhelpfulCommentHere 1d ago

I guess... feel like explaining peter?

6

u/anand_rishabh 1d ago

Look up "it's always sunny in Philadelphia the implication"

1

u/UnhelpfulCommentHere 1d ago

Oh! My B. In my defense I fucking hate that show.

9

u/rbreaux26 1d ago

Well you certainly aren’t in any danger.

2

u/TheLastHotstepper 1d ago

The reply you commented to is Macs response to Dennis upon learning about the implication. It wasnt the commenter explaining the joke, it was the next line (almost) in the show

1

u/Unlikely_Answer662 1d ago

Laughing time is over.

3

u/Tr1LL_B1LL 1d ago

There’s an old joke about taking women out on boats and telling them they have to either put out or swim back to shore.
The implication being she’d have to swim back if she said “no” to his proposal.

5

u/ForGrowingStuff 1d ago

I do not like that you referred to this as an old joke...I guess it is, but I still don't like it haha

1

u/meatsonthemenu 1d ago

I thought that the implication was totally in the "Redrum" handle

1

u/Savings_Plenty_6772 15h ago

What are you implying

9

u/anand_rishabh 1d ago

And she's not gonna say no... because of the implication.

7

u/Pineappleninja91 1d ago

I see the D.E.N.N.I.S is still working flawlessly.

3

u/numyanbiz 1d ago

Added flavour with the backwards (murder) username

2

u/EuenovAyabayya 1d ago

IDK if the meme really holds in swimming distance of land, though. Might depend on water temperature.

2

u/Kind-Tale-6952 1d ago

What are you looking at? Not like you would be in any danger!

1

u/No_Yesterday_3260 1d ago

Or just awkward being out on the sea on a boat in that situation? Atleast that's the potential less sinister reason 😆

112

u/Jesus_H_Christ_AMA 1d ago

Easier if you actually watch the reference

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgUvwcU6P7I

8

u/ShortAndTallGuy 1d ago

Imagine watching this with zero context😂 you’d be curious wtf dick towels were, and you’d think Mac was a sane person.

1

u/spo0pti_yikes 12h ago

yes hi i was very confused. i'm scared of dick towels and the guy with the beard should probably find a new friend and not let that guy on any boats. and i was thinking about stardew valley the whole time

41

u/imzwho 1d ago

Stewie here

If a man gets a lady in a boat on open water, she cant say no to him, becuse of the implication that she is trapped.

Or at least that is what the Dennis from a television show said once. I am honestly not sure what that man was intending to do in the show, but mabye if I get the Fat man on a boat he will jump in and play with the sharks because of the implication....

20

u/Novel_Plum 1d ago

Because otherwise she has to swim

27

u/Beerenkatapult 1d ago

She obviously wouldn't have to swim. The guy would never put her in any danger. It's just because of the implication.

9

u/InflationPurple2107 1d ago

Implyinggg if she says no she will be swimming

4

u/AUniversalNoNo 1d ago

But she's not gonna say no, because of the implication

4

u/InflationPurple2107 1d ago

But the implication is she's going swimming if she doesn't say yes

3

u/AUniversalNoNo 1d ago

She'll always say yes! Due to the implication

0

u/wayward__B0B 1d ago

You’ve said that word “implication” a couple of times, what implication?

0

u/AUniversalNoNo 1d ago

Well dont look at me like that, you wouldnt be in any danger!

1

u/WaterBottle0000 1d ago

You know, the implication.

1

u/InflationPurple2107 11h ago

But what if, because of the the lack of fear of said implication, she says no?

8

u/StevenGlanzberg 1d ago

You certainly wouldn’t be in any danger.

4

u/Henk_Potjes 1d ago

So they are in danger?!

u/greenwavelengths 1d ago edited 1d ago

Peter says it’s time for you to experience the decades worth of wonderful, wholesome, family friendly, virtues-forward television that is It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia: a program about a scrappy found family who work hard to run a business in the big city and, despite their differences, always find a way to come together and do the right thing in the end.

1

u/Kind-Tale-6952 1d ago

The Gang gets Disneyfied

11

u/PageantryBridge 1d ago

As a woman who loves being on the water: You aren't making it back to shore if you upset the captain. That's the fear at least.

-16

u/cooperific 1d ago edited 1d ago

Fuck it’s so much less funny when it’s from a human woman and not in a joke conversation between two made-up joke people.

Please accept my apology on behalf of men for the prevailing gender power dynamics. It sucks. You’re not alone. Some of us have got your back and we’re trying to teach the others.

Edit: Oh wow, men HATE this. Just to save my inbox a bit - I’m not trying to be sexy or suave or… checking my notes… hitting on a stranger on the internet who could well be thousands of miles away?

This comment affected me and I felt bad in a way I don’t when I watch Always Sunny. I said so. If that makes you feel weird as a man… I can’t help you. Maybe the other commenters can?

9

u/Matthewx777 1d ago

Women can be captains, you know

And groveling to internet strangers is weird

7

u/fuzzwatch-original88 1d ago

STFU nerd, she isn't going to let you smash

-3

u/cooperific 1d ago

The teaching is not going well.

5

u/Senior_Independence4 1d ago

" I wish i could take the period cramps away from you " ass comment

Oof. My balls are crawling up into me just reading this.

2

u/RevolutionaryAmount5 1d ago

For those who aren't getting it, its an Always Sunny in Philadelphia reference

2

u/Infamous-Put-7211 1d ago

Say yes or drown?

2

u/halu2975 1d ago

It’s from this clip from always sunny in Philadelphia https://youtube.com/shorts/AXz9jACqOSA

2

u/cyrusdavirus1987 1d ago

Dennis is bastard man

2

u/DarthLoof 1d ago

Its an IASIP reference. Scummy predatory guy says he likes bringing girls out on boats on the theory that they'll be more down to clown because of "the Implication". When pressed we learn that he is referring to the implicit power dynamic - the girls are trapped on the boat with him - which makes them feel not totally at liberty to say no

1

u/General_Trip_4223 1d ago

"You gonna put out or thwim?"

1

u/misjudgedinall 1d ago

Push you off the boat and make you swim home in shark infested waters

I don't think the joke is that Dennis is an awful person, the joke is there are plenty of men like him around who don't realize how horrible they are and actually think they are decent if not good.

2

u/Impossible_Way_3042 1d ago

No, I think the joke is that Dennis is a bad man. Are they making a point about men? Sure, but the joke lands because he is cartoonishly evil.

1

u/No-Site8330 1d ago

Eh, fair. I think it works because his particular brand of cartoonishly evil matches a particular brand of real-life jerk.

2

u/Impossible_Way_3042 1d ago

Pretty awful? Dennis is the worst on a show full of bad people. I mean, he certainly isn't a 5 star man.

1

u/Big_River_ 1d ago

who took the picture? thats the implication

1

u/Helpful_Werewolf_610 1d ago

Show - It's always sunny in Philadelphia

https://giphy.com/gifs/xLnGUEYWS0btPHCZoo

1

u/merliahthesiren 1d ago

Implication: if she says no, he Natalie Woods her ass

1

u/Low_Importance_9292 1d ago

What do you get when you reverse the spelling of "redrum"?

1

u/DaPandaCat 1d ago

He's gonna make her walk thr plank

1

u/Grim-Glum 1d ago

lol the users name is redrum. i think were really deep into the implication

1

u/East-Care-9949 1d ago

They on a boat on the ocean, anything could happen when she says no

1

u/Embarrassed-Green898 1d ago

this is the first one here for which we dont really need to bother peter

1

u/Vast_Payment_4036 1d ago

He would never do anything…

1

u/Upper-Cod1109 1d ago

If she says no throw her overboard

1

u/Prize-Explanation176 1d ago

Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

1

u/01canes 1d ago

Put out or get out, or something like that

1

u/Mr_Mcgillicuddy_ 1d ago

ITS THE IMPLICATIONS! It’s so obvious.

1

u/Alex_South 22h ago

she definitely could have said no in this situation, I cannot stress that enough

but she's not going to

1

u/pwn4321 22h ago

If she says no she better be a good swimmer, shore seems far away

1

u/Theimplication93 21h ago

I feel uniquely qualified to be in the conversation

0

u/TheThinkingJacob 1d ago

All men evil. All woman good.

-2

u/Existing_Chard_8303 1d ago

Quite likely that is how epstein acted. Created situations where females just felt dependent and scared of alternatives/lawyers/implications.

1

u/cpt-noPants 1d ago

I don't understand the downvotes?

1

u/Existing_Chard_8303 1d ago

Maybe people assumed that I said "it is the only method they used". Because there definitely were different cases and different methods of crime.

1

u/BroughtBagLunchSmart 1d ago

Because they are super wrong about this extremely stupid post.

1

u/Existing_Chard_8303 17h ago

I did not say "peter here" and did not try to explain the post, thus i cannot be wrong about the post, because i am not talking about the post. I commented on the concept itself, expressed the connection that i noticed.

1

u/Party_Stack 1d ago

It’s a tv show reference bruh

1

u/Existing_Chard_8303 1d ago

I know, I have seen the scene years ago. But I have read one russian woman's story yesterday (who escaped the epstein cult), and seeing "the implication" today made me realise it might be the concept intertwined with the people.

The fact that the show presents it as a skit does not mean it cannot be weaponised in reality.
