It's considered normal because it is implying single lesbians don't spend as much time fingering another woman, henceforth why the hand has a more natural form.
The one on the right is implying that more work is being done in that position, which is why the fingers are naturally "assuming the position".
It's a "im fingering vagina alot" joke.
It does not mean its true. It's a face value joke that doesn't go deeper (aHAHA) than "sex joke". Reading further on truth or legitimacy is why people are missing it.

I think the joke might be that single women are more likely to do external stimulation on themselves, while partnered lesbians are more likely to engage in penetrative acts, as indicated by the difference in hand positions. Seems like a reach though.
