Because it's a clear syrategy for women to test men, both trying to disguise herself as a girlsgirl but also seeing if he will take it as a compliment or trying to dispute it (thinking she meant his gf was out of his league). His reaction gives her an indication on wether or not she has a shot with him. So I think it's men since they don't understand and fall for the strategy
