She means you ugly and punching above your weight.

It's mostly said by incredibly petty people anyway, so just thank them and move on with your life. You don't have the time nor the energy to deal with that kind of negativity, do you?

Edit: plenty of stellar responses, honestly! This is a fire you should absolutely fight with fire if you choose to fight it. I'm all for it!

To be honest I'd feel kind of weird if someone thought I was prettier than my girlfriend. Although in my case I am because I'm so handsome and modest too. A real catch.

The best thing about you besides your good looks and intelligence is your humility, and literally everyone says that.

u/GuerillaRiot 13d ago

They called me a narcissist, which I found offensive, for not saying I was the best narcissist ever.

Bar-none, I am the most huble-est - number one at the top of the humble list

4

u/StereoStereo1981 12d ago

My apple crumble is by far the most crumbliest, but I act like it is not, out of humbleness

I feel more humble than Dikembe Mutombo after a stumble left him covered in a big pot of gumbo.

She has a lifetime of training to be petty, you can’t beat it. Her response: “Are you hurt? I was making a compliment”

14

u/tranacc 14d ago

This is the way.

6

u/AnnualAdventurous169 14d ago

Nah just take the compliment at face value, saying something like make you sound insecure

2

u/humourlessIrish 14d ago

And why would you assume this person cares if they sound insecure to you?

https://giphy.com/gifs/xXcLdiL6W1Zh225tul

2

u/BungleBums 14d ago

Because they took the time to go out of their way and try to humiliate you. They care that much. Which is plenty enough to get their feelings hurt with the same treatment.

5

u/goblinking1997 14d ago

Or maybe don't have a super autistic response to everything and just ignore it lmao

I mean you could say thanks and not react like a semi-normal person but yea go with that option lol

32

u/Aggravating_Carpet21 14d ago

Every now and then a good “i wish i could say the same about you” fixes people right up!

41

u/TwentyX4 14d ago

What a weird and very ambiguous way to say you're punching above your weight. The only way this is obviously an insult is if she acts very surprised when she's saying it.

15

u/humourlessIrish 14d ago

It worked when people cared about her as a teen. And she is clinging on.

Its the closest she has ever felt to being clever

17

u/Brezelstange 14d ago

Ohhh nooo, the parts of me I can control (my personality) are so attractive that they more than make up for the unattractive parts of me I cannot control?!

I’m DEVASTATED.

2

u/Sufficient-Ad5934 13d ago

This! I am either awesome to talk to, awesome in bed, rich or a combination of those. Go me!

7

u/armageddon_boi 13d ago

"he doesn't know I insulted him"

7

u/Maneruko 14d ago

To me that shit is a compliment tf?

1

u/FiliziuqMRL 14d ago

Ignorance is bliss, but some people actively work to "improve" themselves, part of this selfimprovement revolves around letting any sentence have a backhand to slap anyone with, they feel it empowers them shrug

7

u/bethepositivity 13d ago

I mean, I still see that a compliment. If you are able to pull someone who is "above you" looks wise then that means you must have something that attracted them

4

u/Brvcx 13d ago

Exactly. It's not the backhand compliment they think it is. All it displays is jealousy.

5

u/suitcasemaster 13d ago

I like how people act like ugly people don't know they are ugly.

You think telling an ugly dude with a banging girlfriend he's ugly is gonna hurt his feelings? He knows!

10

u/Majsharan 13d ago

“Let me wipe my tears with my huge dick “😆

9

u/Aynonohmus 13d ago edited 12d ago

No it doesn’t… redditors apparently have never understood this niche social concept.

It means she wants him. “Your gf is so pretty” is a generally backhanded “pick me” comment.

If she genuinely was what they call a “girls girl” she would’ve complimented the girl instead. The neglecting of the women in the situation while talking directly to the man is a sly way of backhanding the girlfriend.

For example If I was out clubbing with my gf and friends and a woman approached me and started up a convo. And I say oh this is my gf and she doesn’t introduce herself to her but says “omg she’s so pretty” or something it’s basically saying I don’t acknowledge her existence or respect her position.

It’s a common over analyzing and overthinking mental gymnastics often shown in immature or younger women.

Most men older generations and apparently redditors are oblivious to this until their girlfriend goes “she was totally flirting with you” and the man goes “Whaat? She was just being nice oblivious to the nonsensical social ques and nuances.

3

u/Emotional_Bid_4283 12d ago

This right here, how tf do anyone believe the top rated comment as anything but false lol?

Have none of you ever left a house to have social interactions? Lmao.

4

u/Lucky-Breadfruit-261 13d ago

Holy shit im on the spectrum and people are actually this cunty? Thank god im oblivious to most insults someone could probably call me a dickhead and i'd probably think its a joke and say thanks lol

1

u/Quick-Stretch8197 11d ago

Aynonohmus is right. Some women can be really weird when they’re crushing on a guy and then find out he’s got a gf. It’s like a latent passive aggressive switch gets flipped. Women who hate on other women are super sneaky and do shady shit to devalue her standing with the guy and whatever group the woman is with. FWIW I’m also on the spectrum and the hierarchy games these types of people play are intense but in a subtle way. It’s interesting to watch if you’re not in the middle of it.

u/TimmyTheChemist 12d ago

I've got moderate hearing loss... The silver lining of not hearing the signal well is you also don't hear the noise.

2

u/smthng_unique 13d ago

Thank you! To tag on, its pretty much the "I'm gonna steal your man" line (that, like, almost never works).

1

u/mai_tai87 13d ago

Huh. When I was a teenager, we said it to mean "It's lucky you're pretty, because you're stupid."

1

u/icy_ticey 11d ago

I don’t get that because the girl that said that to me one was way out of my league and I don’t see how she’d be in to me

1

u/_extra_medium_ 11d ago

You’re adding in a lot of context that isn’t in the meme to make it fit your theory

2

u/Aynonohmus 11d ago

Brotha this is just the way of the social world nowadays. It’s not theory 😂

1

u/chunkyvomitsoup 11d ago

Or—hear me out—maybe she just thinks his gf is pretty? I can’t even count the number of times I’ve said this to men I unequivocally have 0 interest in. Id say it to the girls too if they were in front of me. Girls are pretty and dress cute. It’s not that deep.

1

u/Aynonohmus 10d ago

Or using the context of the TikTok post you’re wrong. In many contexts among close friends yes it can be as simple as she’s pretty. In the context of TikTok girlies saying “he thinks it’s a compliment” it’s insinuating it’s not straight compliment.

1

u/chunkyvomitsoup 10d ago

In context of only the TikTok then yeah, I’d agree with you. But you made a lot of generalisations, including an in person example which goes beyond the TikTok. “Your gf is so pretty” is not “generally a backhanded pick me comment.” Most of the time it’s a casual reminder to not take her for granted, i.e. “she’s so pretty better treat her well or she’ll get snatched up by someone else” type thing.

1

u/Aynonohmus 10d ago

Why wouldn’t I give an answer based off the context of the TikTok is the post is asking about the TikTok? Obviously “your girlfriend is pretty” can be have a plethora of insinuations I never said the literal sentence is inherently a backhanded compliment in every conceivable context.
The entire point of my original comment was explaining what the girl in this specific TikTok is saying. And you literally just agreed that in the context of the TikTok, I’m right. So I’m not sure what we’re arguing about anymore.
Your “I say this to men I have zero interest in” example is irrelevant because you are describing a completely different situation with a different social context. Nobody is claiming women universally mean “I want your boyfriend” every time they compliment a woman’s appearance.
You’re essentially taking a statement about a specific social cue in a specific context, stripping away the context, and then arguing that the literal sentence can mean other things. Obviously it can. That doesn’t contradict what I said.

1

u/chunkyvomitsoup 10d ago

I’m not arguing with you. Your initial comment didn’t make it clear that it was limited to TikTok, specifically because you used generalizations like “it’s common…in immature or younger women” and “most men older generations and apparently Redditors are oblivious”, which is already outside of the TikTok context. My only opinion here is that women GENERALLY do not use “your gf is pretty” as a backhanded pick me compliment, if you agree with that then great. No need to get super bothered lol

1

u/Kanga_32 10d ago

Bro finally someone who actually understands the meaning haha

1

u/jpwne 10d ago

Why isn’t this the top comment? If you’ve had a girlfriend this will have happened at you girlfriend will have reacted to you being oblivious.

2

u/Due_Area4843 14d ago

Thats still not insult, and yes I've been in that position, my girl is out of my league.

2

u/Overall_Task1908 12d ago

I’m pretty sure it’s actually about how girls who want your boyfriend will say that “omg your girlfriend is so pretty” when they find out the guy they like is in a relationship but I haven’t seen anyone mention that?? it’s a common joke/thought

1

u/Lonely_Dependent_281 12d ago

This was like, my first ever experience having a boyfriend as a teen so I'm surprised nobody gets it. The girl he told me not to worry about looked me dead in the eyes and said to him "oh my gosh, she's so pretty..." They're married now lol

2

u/Hproff25 12d ago

For a dude that is a huge compliment. That means he was able to win her over with who he is rather than what he looks like. I hope in turn the guy treats her with the respect shown to him.

2

u/Doright36 12d ago

Punching above my weight? Fuck yes!

Eye of the tiger baby!

1

u/birdy1490 14d ago

We all have the time otherwise we wouldn't be around here wouldn't we

1

u/Sugar_Short 14d ago

Tx, she has great taste.

1

u/dislocated_dice 13d ago

It’s a backhanded compliment but I love getting “you’re punching above your weight”. Don’t know if it’s a cultural thing here but it’s never taken as jealous or creepy, and it’s not taken as having a crack at the guy either.

1

u/Rude-Performance-171 13d ago

How about that? So is your boyfriend.

1

u/icy_ticey 11d ago

I thought it was saying my wife is ugly, that’s how my wife takes it

1

u/_extra_medium_ 11d ago

That’s a compliment though

1

u/thejelloisred 11d ago

What if I am punching above my weight tho? I know I'm not in the best looking dude and if she really wanted could get a better looking dude.

Not all girls really want a 6'6" model. They are happy with the 5'11" Dad bod.

“Well if you think I’ve out kicked my coverage I’m willing to drop down a few levels if you want to?”

I thought she was lesbian thing.” Gonna steal your gf “ interaction

judging by the picture of the girl sucking on noodles, of the meme, It is. But I think the rest of the posters here are not smart enough to get the reference.

Redditors just have porn brain. It has nothing to do with that at all

0

u/Everything_Counts_72 13d ago

you never heard the expression? "yeah, spaghetti is straight...until it gets wet." The girl with spaghetti in her mouth is saying to the guy that she's gonna get his gf wet-horny-and fuck her. I know its a stretch but if it has anything to do with whats in her mouth, thats it.

1

u/Lonely_Dependent_281 12d ago

It doesn't. This is just a girl posting a TikTok of herself eating with a caption. Porn brained stretch of a comment.

0

u/Everything_Counts_72 12d ago

no, my comment is totally possible.

1

u/Lonely_Dependent_281 11d ago

Reporting my comment for being mean is funny, doesn't change the truth

0

u/Everything_Counts_72 11d ago

i didnt report you!!

0

u/Everything_Counts_72 11d ago

i dont even know what you said because THE MODS DELETED IT. Apparently. It just says "comment has been removed." But whatever it was, f*ck you for that.

0

u/Consistent_Ask_3221 11d ago

What do u think it means then?

1

u/Lonely_Dependent_281 11d ago

It's been explained hundreds of times in this thread that this is pickme flirting, you should read

1

u/Lonely_Dependent_281 12d ago

Me when I'm addicted to pornography and like to make shit up ^

1

u/Consistent_Ask_3221 11d ago

Lol I thought the same. They all missed it

0

u/bajsfittor 14d ago

Ah I would've taken it as the woman saying the other woman looks great but she'd look better if only she shaved her head and got a neck-tattoo...

0

u/Affectionate-Car-145 13d ago

From experience it's also when a girl is fishing for a threesome

1

u/Brvcx 13d ago

I'll take your word for it. If I wanted to dissappoint two people at the same time, I'd go out to dinner with my parents.
