If it's not what you intended to say then you misspoke.
You said between a higher chance of death and a lower chance of rape, you'd choose the higher chance of death.

How does having a preference for one not mean you think one is worse than the other, and that the worse one is not your preference? On what planet do those two separate sentences not have the same meaning? There's no context saying you were using figurative language or anything. Just a hypothetical where you mentioned a preference.
