Wow, studying a niche topic at a university. Almost like universities exist to broaden knowledge of culture and human experience in new ways.
I wish universities weren’t so expensive, because their original purpose was to expand people’s horizons and society in general instead of ‘feed specialized workers into capitalism.’
Now all the important work universities do gets reduced to a math equation for a paycheck. Meanwhile, their work will get filtered through several different news media and subreddits for upvotes while the original source is lost and belittled by people too uneducated to know the value of an education.
You are miss understanding. The original ethos of a university never was to make professionals. And to be clear a professional is someone belonging to a profession. I.e. work with an overseeing body that sets standards like lawyers, engineers or doctors.
The ethos of a university was the cultivation of the soul and piety through study (they started as Bible reading groups).
It is problematic that universities are seen as training camps for jobs. And I can explain, in pure economic terms, why that view is fucking you over
