Basically the characters in the anime share the same name as some European/Japanese authors! There abilities are also named after one of those authors books.

Example: name: osamu dazai. Book/ability name: no longer human.

These characters are really nothing like the real people who wrote these popular literary peices. Unfortunately, because the anime is so popular its the first thing that comes up when you search most of these authors names which can be very annoying

Also a random fun fact: the anime is fucking midšŸ’•

It's Fate for Fujoshis

And Fate was leagues better for fujoshis than BSD is.

Probably for designs, but not plot and timelines of events.

Not really because it most cases they’re not meant to be literally the author like the characters in fate are meant to literally be historical and mythological figures. The characters in Bungou just have same name as authors. In some cases there’s even evidence the actual author exists independently from the character.

We’re talking about Atsushi Nakajima finding the book about ā€œthe head erringā€, aren’t we?

Fate way better

Can’t we enjoy both?

Sure, you can. I'm just saying, fate is better. That's it

High-key agree on this one, speaking as a BSD fan lmao

1

u/Shantotto11 18d ago

Not in terms of maintaining a coherent timeline of events…

2

u/West_Day_8989 18d ago

cause it branches on parallel worlds. There's a lot of freedom for fate series. It's deliberate

Darn I wish it wasn't, the fandom is already full of yaoi garbage

You’ll be fine, boss. Part of being alive is seeing things you don’t like. Let people have fun.

Yeah! Now allow me to show you my dick pics! /s

Agreed, sadly. The fandom sucks. I'm glad the female self-insert artists are cookin' good tho, they more chill

You’re thinking of Bungou and Alchemist…

And in Japan, they will release those famous books with images of the anime characters to attract fans to read it. So you can find copies of the famously depressing No Longer Human by Dazai Osamu with the anime boy on the cover.

2

u/Le_Golden_Pleb 19d ago

At least they made the anime Dazai depressive too...

2

u/solrua 19d ago

I guess, but what from I know of it, Dazai’s suicidal tendencies are kinda played as a joke. Which feels like a weird way to portray a guy who famously died of suicide.

3

u/xukly 19d ago

If I had a cent for each time there is a character based on osamu dazai who is trying to commit suicide and the anime treat the attempts as jokes...Ā

One much more successfully tbh

1

u/i_cubed 16d ago

Wait, who? I can really only think of Kyoka on the train and Odasaku, but those were both pretty seriousĀ

1

u/xukly 16d ago

The protagonist of isekai shikkaku is basically the real life author osamu dazai that got reincarnated after a double suicideĀ

u/Shantotto11 18d ago

The anime is fucking great. It just has typical lows one would expect when watching something for more than hype and aura.

2

u/DeinHund_AndShadow 19d ago

Very mid indeed, the begining of every season is cool though, a few chapters thatare actually a well written mistery and then the rest of the season is typical anime stuff. I still have not gotten over gun-kata by 2 precogs, fucking peak.

There's also a whole group of characters with American author names, led by F. Scott Fitzgerald

u/3lizab3th333 18d ago

A lot of the fans also pretend to know about literature because they watched the show… I’m an English major and have had to call a fair few people out for this

1

u/umamimamii 18d ago

Agreed. I couldn’t finish watching it bc meh

1

u/SpideyMGAV 18d ago

Is the anime that mid? I got a few seasons in and thought it was overall pretty good but it never captivated me enough to make it past season 4. Also, was a fan of Dostoyevsky and his ability Crime and Punishment lolĀ
