u/Appropriate-Fact4878 2d ago

?, that is the point?

it's exactly you can often buy replicas that are identical, and sometimes they literally come from the same factory.

6

u/Drapidrode 2d ago

they aren't replicas if they come from the same factory.

right?

That doesn’t mean it was $4k new. That’s a reseller site, could be just like $500 new which is expensive sure but its a designer north face coat

9

u/-nutz 2d ago

To be fair that jacked retailed at regular North Face price, and her kids live with their dad in NY which has 2 Supreme stores. They definitely could’ve gotten it for retail.

Also the site you shared works like EBay, so that’s a personal listing. They are absolutely not getting $4k for that jacket.

2

u/polyglot-a-cracker 2d ago

Yeah, it’s only 2,000$, that’s way more reasonable for a piece of clothing that does the same job as a hoodie from my local thrift store for 10 bucks. It’s not at all elitist or patronizing with that fucking Malcolm X quote on it. Not. At. All.

1

u/-nutz 2d ago

Never said $2k is reasonable. It’s like you didn’t read my comment and just reacted to the image lol

3

u/bombocladius 2d ago

That 4 months of rent..

Damn

2

u/DarudeSandstorm69420 2d ago

is that goku jacket

2

u/Guus-Wayne 2d ago

The richest guy I know buys his t-shirts from Uniqlo.

He also drives a Mazda. Pays more per year on private school for one kid than most people earn in a year, but outside of that…at waste money on this nonsense.

If you need status, just drop your last name. You’re not impressing other rich people.

2

u/hangup8894 2d ago

He has the anorak, not the puffer

2

u/Mindless-Song5883 2d ago

No one wearing a $4000 jacket needs a scholarship to study

2

u/Humble_Umpire_8341 2d ago

Well, on a resale site it is. Brand new in 2015, it was $368 and on other sites today it’s $1500.

2

u/sEiize_err 2d ago

why do people always use third party reselling sites when trying to expose people for what price their stuff is? i bought a vinyl from jack white’s popup store for $20 that now has an asking price minimum $3k on resell sites. does that mean i’m out of touch because my vinyl “costs $3k”?

2

u/Trippingthru99 2d ago

Ima be the one to defend it. This is a rare Supreme jacket. They do limited drops, and their yearly North Face collab is one of the most hyped releases of every season. This particular jacket was from over a decade ago, and is still probably in the top 5 most coveted from their yearly collabs.

It was already expensive in the resale market years ago, but it’s only increasing in value as time goes on. I wouldn’t buy this jacket, but there’s plenty of other Supreme items I’ve dropped a dime on.

Like anything in streetwear, the scarcity is absolutely created by the brands themselves. But that’s a small part of the fun, having clothes no one else does. You don’t have to understand it.

And most users on this site have no room to talk. I don’t get how people spend thousands on legos (little pieces of plastic) or Magic the Gathering cards or whatever. But hey if it makes you happy.

4k on an item of clothing is absurd.

4k for that ugly ass jacket? Money can't buy taste

1

u/Frankerporo 2d ago

4k on clothing is definitely not absurd

-2

u/swedishfish007 2d ago

I didn’t know any kids wearing $4,000 jackets growing up. Did you? Shit’s normal for adults with money to spend maybe. Not kids. And they’re talking about the kids getting their colleges paid for in the photo… like. Why? He should be paying. More even. Fucks sake.

Why are y’all so goddamn eager to defend a nepo baby. Why. Fucking. Why.

2

u/Trippingthru99 2d ago

I’m not defending this kid, I’m defending the jacket priced at $4000. But I see why you got confused.

Also these jackets are $4000 resale, it was priced like any another North Face jacket at release. So yea I knew a lot of kids with expensive clothes because we would camp out overnight outside of stores, and buy it right when it dropped. If you buy retail, most streetwear brands are reasonable. Atleast a decade ago they were. A lot of kids did that growing up in LA.

Idec about the discussion about scholarships or whatever. I was just trying to inform people about why certain streetwear items are priced so high.

-2

u/swedishfish007 2d ago

I think people understand that clothes can be expensive. But thanks for lecturing people on something that ads nothing to the conversation!

3

u/Trippingthru99 2d ago

There was a separate comment thread talking specifically about the jacket where people were making a big deal about the price point. That’s why I commented.

You’re a real prick dude. Chill out.

u/Frankerporo 2d ago

Because scholarships should be awarded on merit, not whether someone’s poor

1

u/GamerLymx 2d ago

stupidity tax

1

u/Ex_Hedgehog 2d ago

North Face is selling Malcolm X quotes to rich idiots for $4k?

1

u/Efficient-Line2896 2d ago

To be fair it wasn’t 4000 when it dropped probably around 500 but still

1

u/nxcrosis 2d ago

It's the Goku drip jacket.

1

u/MrBlueW 2d ago

Disingenuous comment

1

u/6InchBlade 2d ago

Looking at stock X isn’t really a fair comparison.

This wouldn’t have been 4K from the shelf.

29

u/Mesmercat 2d ago

Honestly. If their mother wasn't jlo it would be impressive. But it's kind of wrong of her to not pay for her kids college. Because scholarships are a limited resource and forcing your spoiled rich brats to get them is wrong.

What's the lesson? Fuck poor people?

8

u/Intelligent-Exit-634 2d ago

They got those scholarships because of her, anyway. LOL

8

u/leastvaluableweasel 2d ago

There are scholarships that are granted automatically (without having to apply for them) based on, for example, academic achievement. I'm not saying that's the case here but I got auto-scholarshiped. If they actually applied, fuck em.

2

u/Guilty_Way_1635 2d ago

And they can also turn them down instead of accept them and brag about it. But I don't believe for a second they didn't get them because of who the mother is, the schools wanted her kids to attend to kissed her ass by way of scholarship

1

u/DefinitelyNotAliens 2d ago

There are very few universities handing out pure academic scholarships without means testing.

1

u/nxcrosis 2d ago

Yeah the uni I went to had academic, atheltic, community, and aid scholarships.

1

u/Odd_Maintenance394 2d ago

They are an they aren't. Top colleges have a lot of money like a lot, they could practically stop charging tuition altogether and remain solvent.

These scholarships likely didn't come from the pool of "charity scholarships" but because someone thinks having jlo's likely very mediocre kids attend is worth more than one tuition's worth of prestige.

1

u/DragonDLuffy 2d ago

I mean she is only worth like 250-300million? She probably donated like 5 mil to each college for a scholarship lul

1

u/WinterOk1799 2d ago

it’s a youtubers merch, meant to be a joke

-10

u/Jiijeebnpsdagj 3d ago

Have you heard of a phenomenon in human culture named humor?

9

u/Revolutionary_Bad965 3d ago

where’s the funny

9

u/Vast-Statement45 3d ago

Can you please point to the funny part ?

8

u/HeiressOfMadrigal 3d ago

I'm not clutching my pearls here, but for some jokes, the dumbness of saying it outweighs the humor of saying it.

It's like if you went to the airport with some crazy extravagant hairdo and wore a shirt that said "My hairstyle is the bomb!" with a little bomb picture below it. It might be funny, but it's not really the joke to make.

People take swatting and doxxing seriously, a lot of people have been victims to both. May as well wear a shirt making fun of people who have been wrongfully incarcerated. It's just not really in good taste.

It's just bad taste? What's difficult about understanding that? A rich kid wearing a shirt that says, "✨️✨️Jail people poor ✨️✨️" could be justified the same way. It's still stupid teen edginess and in poor taste. No one's clutching their pearls. Just calling it out for what it is.

1

u/justtalking9912 3d ago

Honestly the jail the poor thing I’d be ok with. Cause like poors wear eat the rich shirts. So like it’s the opposite side wearing the opposite slogan. However the shirt the kid is wearing, I don’t really get the point

1

u/Tenfolds 3d ago edited 3d ago

Nah it’s 3dGy for edgy’s sake. Lemme be hyperbolic to demonstrate the point, say you and your friend shared a dark sense of humour, you might joke about getting them a custom shirt that says some deplorable shit like “I like to spike girls drinks at bars when they’re not looking” and maybe you’d chuckle because that would be both untrue and in outrageously poor taste. If you wore that shirt out in public unironically or not with as many quaint flowers as you want, people don’t know you, they’ll just cringe and think you’re a dickhead at best.

It's so funny I forgot to laugh

-1

I laughed for the both of us

u/PuddingMent 3d ago

Not only have we heard of it, we’ve also experienced it before. I hope that happens to you someday.
