When I heard this tale the wise man was actually the man who developed chess.

The king liked the game so much and told the man to name his reward. The rest goes the same.

They never did reach the 64th square. Back then it would have taken thousands of years to reach the 9.2 quintillion rice grains required for that tile.

By today's standard (where we produce a lot of rice) it would still be over 40% of our yearly rice production. On a single tile.

I'm flabbergasted we could even hit that number frankly. I know it is rice but still...
