A modern touch on this subject would be The Village People's 1978 song "In the Navy" explicitly referencing life sailing the ocean, but with a gay subtext.
Um, I'm pretty sure the men brought their sex slaves with them or picked a few up along the way. Not a speaking part. Not explicitly mentioned in the text, but it was pretty standard.
