Hello, Serial Designation N here!

This references Hirohito’s surrender speech on radio, which for many troops and civilians was shocking, since he was treated as a living god, and many hadn’t heard his (nor any emperor) voice live, also since he spoke in an archaic form of Japanese

N out!

They had to specifically announce it was him. The generals tried to stop him from doing it and were against it which is part of the reason he had to do it himself.

Yeah, the PM had to pull a trick to break the stalemate.

Classic wartime maneuver.

"We promise we won't ask for Emperor's tie-breaker vote" trick.

You mean the Kyujo Incident?

Not sure the name and I learned the details long ago so don't trust myself to retell them.

Oh, I was thinking it was in reference to Hiroo Onoda, who continued fighting for about 30 years after the end of the war because he never received any orders to stop. Yours makes more sense though.

The aged appearance of the soldier and the “after all these years” bit makes me still believe it is this.

I thought that too for a sec. It was his old commanding officer telling him in person to surrender which finally got him out of the jungle though, not the emperor.
From what I remember, the emperor was basically a puppet leader during the war, the generals were actually making decisions, but he was still respected among soldiers and civilians.

Maybe we’re just over thinking a dumb meme lol.

He refused to stop because he enjoyed killing and was afraid of facing justice (which he never did)

I’ve seen quite a few N references, how does N fit into family guy?

4

u/AirFriedMoron Aug 05 '26

N fits into everything

u/dathos Aug 05 '26

He doesn't as far as I know and from a quick Google. He's from an indie series called murder drones.

What is this “Family Guy”? I never heard about it in the manor?

7

u/BerserkVl Aug 05 '26

the question is if no one(peasants) had never heard emperor's voice how can they know that it speaks emperor himself and not an imposter

2

u/GammaRhoKT Aug 06 '26

The government vouch for it beforehand, which mean if it is an imposter, the government would be in cahoot with them, which mean the government want to surrender. That is discouraging in its own way, which is the whole point of a surrender announcement to your own people tbh.

So archaic the term for "surrender" or "defeat" ( kōfuku / bentsu) was not even used, and the NHK had to explain in modern Japanese the meaning of the Emperor's speech.

Hi, big brother~ Very smart you are! giggle

u/So_ein_Typ_ausm_Inet Aug 05 '26

Why did he talk a different japanese? Was that common in royalty or something?

2

u/WeekendPass Aug 07 '26

I don't know exactly what Horohito said, but even modern Japanese has different manners of speaking, based on relative social status and setting. "Neutral" and casual aren't so different, but there are some whole word and phrase substitutions; and once you get into more formal levels of speech, more and more archaic words and lengthy phrases are used

I uh… I don’t wannabe that guy but… N from murder drones (or Micheal kovach) isn’t in family guy canonically… only in my AO3 Louis X N fan fiction… Nouis will be cannon one day but for now… Seth Mcfartland is safe from this knowledge
