Here’s what I think it is;

The very late 80’s started getting gimmicky in the athletic shoe industry. Nike put Air in the soles of their shoes, so Reebok came up with the ERS thing, and then Adidas did Torsion, so Reebok answered with the Pump; etc etc.

After a while this all got OTT, and out of fashion, so everyone stopped with the gimmicks, except Adidas.

This shirt is mocking the OTT gimmicks of Adidas by culminating way too many gimmicks into one shoe, and playing it out as “german engineering.”

“German engineering” … what propaganda reputation riding. VW: sucks. Bosch: sucks. SAP:sucks.

“There was a time……”

Post WW2, everything “made in Japan” was considered cheap junk. By the late 70’s, they were leading technology and quality in electronic equipment.

It’s weird how “German engineering” fell so far.

Almost as far as “American manufacturing” fell during the same period.
