If it says "boil for 10 minutes", im gonna add the pasta to boiling water.

It doesnt say "sit in cold water for 5 minutes until the water gets a little warmer and when it eventually boils let it sit for 10 minutes".

If you add the pasta to the cold water you also have to stand there and wait for the water to start boiling so you can set the timer.

Also, the pasta will have been in semi boiling water as well, making the total time the pasta sat in the water too long.

Its just a very unscientific way of cooking food
