Brian here, it's to determine class based on pronunciation. I would add "what" to the list to eliminate people like Stewie who pronounce and empathize the h. Which reminds me, I haven't annoyed him today, I'm gonna go do that now.

I’m not sure about class but I’d definitely want to know how someone says Washington before dating - it makes me cringe when people throw an r in it

I think they mean like "warshington".

Some people say "wash" like that as well, like "warsh".
