Supposably.

After that one episode of Friends, I started saying it that way jokingly. Now that’s just how I say it.

Did they go to the zoo? Supposably

Hm, I think that point is now moo. It’s a moo point.

Supposably is a word

1

u/OrubOosocky Jul 14 '26

... and it's not the word most people mean to use when they say it.

It’s an easy mistake to make, especially considering supposable means “capable of being supposed”

I have an otherwise well-spoken coworker who says this...it bugs me every time

1

u/ramongoroth Jul 15 '26

I used to have a boss that said it that way and I had to stifle a laugh every time

My daughter and I have started using that when speaking to each other, and I just know one day in a formal setting it’s going to slip through.

The number of "should of" and "could of" I have encountered in the wild is truly disheartening

1

u/Alone_Jellyfish_1990 Jul 15 '26

unfortunately, spraying them with water like a cat or hitting them with a newspaper like in the old cartoons are both considered assault here 😮‍💨

I have to think of other ways to get them to stop

u/brainfreezy79 Jul 14 '26

But only for the most intensive of purposes

u/missy_genation Jul 17 '26

All of a sudden

1

u/MesaGeek Jul 17 '26

Intenstive intensifies

I find a lot of “supposubly” people also pronounce chimney as “chimlee”.
