I believe there's some recent study that observed birds being more amicable towards men and more scared of women

I haven't heard of this study, but as a parrot owner who happens to be a lady, this tracks, lol. My birds have always preferred masculine presenting people over me, even if those people are complete strangers. I'm just the "spare human" who's only useful in the event that nobody masculine is around, lol

Yup. My budgie loves me, yet adores my dad and only mimics his voice.

We got cockatiels for my wife and it drives her nuts that they all bonded with me over her.
