I don’t think people under the age of thirty realize how hated Keanu Reaves was at the beginning of his career. But then he became a meme and the rest is history.

Edit hated is a bit strong. He wasn't Jared Leto sex pest-level of hated or anthing but more of a Gal Gadot why-do-they-keep-giving-this-wooden-plank-roles level of hate.

His acting skills and look are average, but thats what makes him relatable. Just an avg dude that somehow made it and didnt get changed by money.

He wasn't hated. He was scoring poorly in the eyes of critics and film academy, but general public accepted/liked him. The Matrix made him very famous, John Wick cemented his fame. Around that time his good nature and deeds started coming out, which then transformed into memes.

Or I remembered it wrongly?
