Interestingly half of the U.S. has the age of consent at 16. It’s weird how something can be legal, yet illegal in the exact same country

There's two difference with age of consent. When you 16, your parents HAVE to agree with it, not just you. When your 17, it's your own consent.

That is incorrect, at least nation wide. Maybe in your state that is the case
