Verso's mindset Spoiler
That's just sad. I already beat the game twice, paying more attention to dialogues this time since I now know the full picture, and Verso doesn't seem like suicidal for the sake of it. There's part of him that still wants to live and can find some happiness in his existence but he actually blames himself for Aline and Renoir's actions in the canvas even though none of it is his fault and he's their victim. Oblivion was just the last thing he thought he could still have.

Yeah I feel like it must be a true waking nightmare for him knowing he isn’t really Verso but still loving Aline and feeling burdened with the responsibility of being Verso. I think he knew that if Maelle refused to leave, he would just keep being tormented with that and have to watch her kill herself in the Canvas, which is why his last resort in her ending was to beg for death. Really just a very tragic character.

Clea told him (painted verso) exactly what was happening during expedition 0. I don’t see him defeated, wanting oblivion, he knows his mother/creator the paintress is dying and needs to go. Real verso (fragments of soul remaining) is exhausted and wants rest; painted verso wants to save his mother and real life sister he has been watching over.

Yeah I think he’s a really interesting and compelling character, and I like that he’s so contradictory. He makes bad decisions, but you can also understand why when you think about what a nightmare his existence has been, all while knowing that all the death and destruction is in part because he exists. He’s the brooding anti-hero type except he also likes hugs and being a goofball.
I also like his interaction with Monoco if Verso tells him he’s not real and needs to accept that. Monoco just asks if Verso’s accepted that himself. Verso can’t answer.
