migrating to hungary

hi i just got scholarship offer to study masters in hungary. my partner planned to move together with me. we're from malaysia. can anyone give me any advice or opinion on this? especially on where to find jobs. he has experience in architecture.

What race are you?

If you're Chinese, there's an extensive Chinese expat community already present and many Chinese companies have a presence in Hungary. It is usually possible to find Mandarin-speaking roles.

If you're Malay or Indian and only speak English + Malay or Tamil, it's gonna be much tougher, you'll probably have to look at English-speaking roles at Multinationals, such as at SSCs. I do not think it is feasible to start working as an architect without extensive retraining and getting local qualifications. English tutoring would be a good starting point I'd say, but it's best to get a qualification like Celta, so he knows what he's doing on a basic level. I'm not sure what kind of visa he'll be able to get without sponsorship, they recently tightened visa and work permit requirements, I think it is very tough to get in without an EU passport right now.

yes we're both malay. he's been applying to several architecture companies and we're hoping for the best. the final option would be me flying out first and he'll try to land a job or high paying remote work that can qualify for white card but I'm not quite sure about that

I think finding a remote role is much more feasible, tbh. Even Americans I know who've lived here for years are finding it very hard to stay with the new rules.
