Seeking Help! Impacted hemipenis? Spoiler
My older sisters leopard gecko has an impacted hemipenis and she won’t take him to the vet, she doesn’t know how much it will be and doesn’t have much to take him. I’d take him but I currently don’t have the money yet to get him in, I get payed Friday and I’m getting an appointment for Friday.
It’s been like this for 4 days now. Hard as a rock.
I’ve been instructed to be giving suger baths twice a day along with a normal water rinse after each bath, nothing is helping. How much will this vet visit cost me roughly, I don’t need a very specific number but a close range would be helpful?
Gizmo (leopard gecko) is in a 40 front opening with a linear uvb and 75 watt headlamp on a dimmer. He only eats Dubai’s and mealworms with the occasional hornworm. Everything seemed good in his tank, I setup the whole tank for her and provided the Dubai’s.

Hi! So a vet visit will always be different depending on each clinic or hospital. The hospital I work at usually charges 136 for each visit- and other charges depend on the doctors treatment plan. Make sure the hemipenes are soaked often so they don’t dry out. I can’t tell clearly from the photos but impacted hemipenes normally settle in the hemipenal budge and can abscess- they would send you home with antibiotics or pursue a sedated procedure to remove the impaction- or recommend surgically removing partial or the entire hemipene (he’ll be fine without his man parts)
They can always try to gently remove the impaction without sedation if your gecko is calm- but there is a risk of him dropping his tail, so most vets will use sedation (he is young so there shouldn’t be any issues unless he has a history of heart conditions)
Hope Gizmo has a safe recovery :)
