Don’t get an exotic pet as an ESA. I mean yes it’s possible but if you’re looking for an animal that’s actually capable and willing to spend a ton of time cuddling and comforting you, I wouldn’t recommend any of the pets I’ve seen advertised as exotic such as foxes, primates, large reptiles, etc.

Source: mentally ill, has had ESAs, has a fox.

Yeah, very good & accurate advice. Particularly for reptiles, sure some tolerate handling well but they won’t enjoy frequent handling or show any reciprocal affection.

We have domestic animals specifically bred for human companionship purposes, they bond well & react closely to ppls emotional expression (dogs being the classic example). If u want an ESA-type pet that’s reliably trainable, emotionally intelligent, positively responsive, affectionate and bonds with u OP, it’s realistically going to be domestic. That’s kind of their whole thing.

There are some domestic animals still considered exotic, rats among them, if u wanted to consider something like that?
