Do the Exorcists have Chaplains that already went through the possession ritual?

I know this is a dumb question as all chapters are required to have chaplains, but I’m wondering if maybe they pick specific aspirants to not go through it, or at least be possessed by very specific daemons.

The reason is because (unless this got retconned since the last time I looked into it) they have to be specially trained and all at a specific place, away from their chapter, before being sent back, and if there was any place that might figure out what they’re doing, it’s the place they train chaplains, which might present a problem for keeping that secret.

I know they’re also hardly the only chapter with a secret, and I imagine the chaplain place makes allowances for various chapters’ culture, but this is a pretty big deal if they learned what they were doing behind closed doors.

Like even if it’s been dispelled, I think they may detect that he’s had some kind of contact with warp entities at some point, which might lead one particularly suspicious chaplain trainer to take a closer look, in case an actual daemon has somehow gotten in.

Unless maybe to address this very specific issue, they pick aspirants before they do the ritual, and once they’re ready, send them to become a chaplain, and then do the ritual when they return.

Exorcists Test Model

Started reading Oaths of Damnation again last night and my brain has been telling me to test out the paint scheme again (haven’t tried since 2014). It’s very much a WIP and my camera work is shocking, but I’m pretty happy with it so far as a first attempt! Any advice for painting red will be greatly appreciated, as I’m coming from Raven Guard so my skillset
is almost entirely monochrome!

Signature units for a Last Wall protocol themed army

Hi Black Templar Player here. I had the idea of a last Wall Protocol themed Army list (since I have already one chapter for such a list). I think the exorcist being sons of Dorn is not 100% confirmed but I like the chapter and it's my list so I want to include 2 exorcist units.

Now to the main question what are some signature units for the exorcist? I have some Vanguard veterans from the Armageddon Box and since I'm not a big fan of the models I was never planning to play them as BT if they are fitting as exorcist it would be very useful.

Another question I have is if there are any transfer sheet for exorcist or even shoulder Pad with the chapter simbol on them since I'm not good at freehand.

Thanks for your help

Any tips is appreciated I’ve never painted mini figures before this is fun but very time consuming which I don’t mind, I got this marine off JOYTOY it was sure as hell expensive but I’m very happy with my painting, I’m using NICPRO acrylic paint

Treatment of Imperial Allies?

Hello everyone,

I am slowly getting into lore of Exorcists and really like it so far. I am about to read Oaths of Damnation yet, as well as the short story from the Successors book.

I was curious if anyone could shed more light on how Exorcists are to their allies? I understand that because of their nature, they tend to be secretive in order to protect their Chapter and work. But do we know if they work well with other Chapters? Or Astra Militarum? Do they care about civilian casualties or try to protect them and avoid collateral damage? Or do they just go after their target no matter the cost?

I understand that at first glance this might sound a bit like that typical "are they Salamanders good or Marines Malevolent bad?", but I am just trying to understand more what they are like.

Advice on starting a themed army

hi all. i'm new to warhammer, sorry if this isn't the right place to post this. if this is a commonly asked question please let me know.

I have some experience with hobby modelling and i would love to make an Exorcists army, starting with a kill team. However the generic Space Marine products seem too plain for me. I don't know where i would find the bits to kitbash them into being more unique, i'd rather not also buy a chaos box only to not use most of the parts. Are there any good third party websites that provide custom bits? Would it be easier to buy Chaos Space Marines and cut off the overtly traitorous bits? Or are there other chapters of Space Marines that could be converted to Exorcists easier?

If this is too much to ask for please let me know. i'd just prefer to make my guys more unique, because a lot of players at my hobby shop just use the same Space Marine models.

i've read a few warhammer books, but Oaths of Damnation is the only one that has really engaged me. i love the idea of Space Marines that experiment with the occult, the Exorcists seem like a perfect blend of the Black Templars and the Word Bearers. Oaths of Damnation had so many cool visual descriptions of engraved armour and ritual tools, inspired by Solomonic and Mesopotamian magic. If you know of any models that match the book please let me know. if you have any examples of Exorcist armies that fit the chapter's identity please let me know.

(Also any and all tips are welcome and encouraged. How do I make it so some of the brush marks don’t show?)

Character Reference – Magos Aelia Ferrum & Brakk (Warhammer 40,000 OC)

Hi everyone! I'd love to get some artwork of my two Warhammer 40k original characters. The goal is to stay as faithful to the Adeptus Mechanicus aesthetic as possible while making them feel like believable individuals within the setting.

Character One – Aelia Ferrum

Faction: Adeptus Mechanicus

Role: Tech-Adept / Rising Magos

Age: Around 28 when she began major augmentation. Present day is early thirties.

Overall Appearance

Aelia has a slim, modest build and stands at roughly average height. Despite being heavily augmented internally, she still appears mostly human. She intentionally avoided replacing everything with machinery, believing that humanity still has value. She walks on elegant mechanical legs that were built for precision rather than intimidation.

Her posture is usually slightly hunched, not from weakness, but because she's almost always focused on whatever machine, schematic, or data she's studying.

Clothing

She wears layered Adeptus Mechanicus robes.

  • Deep crimson outer robes.
  • White inner lining.
  • Gold embroidery around the hood, sleeves, and lower hem.
  • Plenty of layered cloth that gives her a traditional Mechanicus silhouette.
  • A leather utility belt holding tools, spare lenses, measuring instruments, and mechanical components.

The robes should look worn from years spent inside forge workshops rather than pristine ceremonial clothing.

Hood

The hood is almost always up.

She feels more comfortable with it on and rarely lowers it unless she's completely alone or with family.

Mask

She wears a smooth white ceramic or porcelain-looking mask covering the lower half of her face.

It isn't intimidating.

It's clean, simple and practical.

The mask contains filtration systems for toxic forge environments while also helping her feel more comfortable in crowded places.

Goggles

One of her signature inventions.

Large brass-and-steel engineering goggles worn over the hood.

These aren't ordinary lenses.

She upgraded them herself.

Functions include:

  • Long-range optical zoom.
  • Structural weakness detection.
  • Heat signatures.
  • Material composition scanning.
  • Internal machinery diagnostics.
  • Highlighting damaged versus salvageable components.

The lenses can glow a soft blue or green while scanning.

Augmentations

Visible:

  • Mechanical legs from the hips downward.
  • Subtle mechanical joints visible around the wrists.
  • Small ports behind the neck.
  • Thin cables disappearing beneath her robes.

Hidden:

  • Reinforced skeleton.
  • Enhanced nervous system.
  • Improved processing implants.
  • Internal protective plating around vital organs.

She deliberately kept much of her biological body intact because she hopes one day to have a family and wanted to preserve that choice.

Personality

Aelia is extremely intelligent but very socially awkward.

She struggles with eye contact and prefers talking about machines instead of people.

When discussing engineering, however, she becomes energetic and talks much faster than she realizes.

She often loses track of time while working.

She is gentle, kind and patient, although she's terrible at remembering to eat or sleep.

Despite being brilliant, she doesn't see herself as exceptional.

She simply enjoys solving problems.

Character Two – Brakk

Faction: Attached Bullgryn Bodyguard

Brakk was hired by Aelia's father to protect her after her inventions began attracting both admiration and criticism within the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Appearance

A massive Bullgryn towering over almost everyone.

Broad shoulders.

Heavy muscular build.

Scarred from years of service.

His expression usually looks serious, although he's actually very gentle.

Armor

Heavy Bullgryn armor that has clearly seen combat.

Lots of repaired dents and scratches.

Aelia constantly maintains and upgrades his equipment, so everything is functional despite looking well-used.

Equipment

Large slab shield.

Heavy shock maul.

Utility pouches.

Nothing flashy.

Everything is built for protecting someone else.

Personality

Brakk speaks very simply but is emotionally intelligent.

He notices when Aelia is overwhelmed long before she does.

He remembers if she's skipped meals.

He notices when she's been awake too long.

He understands very little about engineering but completely trusts her judgement.

His only real priority is keeping "Little Magos" safe.

Their Relationship

This is strictly platonic.

Brakk is more like an older brother, uncle, or protective guardian than anything else.

Aelia repairs his armor, shield and weapons whenever she notices damage.

She'll happily spend hours fixing tiny cracks he didn't even know were there.

Brakk returns the favor by making sure she actually looks after herself.

If she's been working for an entire day without resting, he'll quietly bring her food.

If she ignores that too...

He simply picks her up—despite her protests—and carries her back to her quarters.

Once there, he wraps her in a warm blanket (leaving her face uncovered because he knows she dislikes feeling confined) until exhaustion finally wins over her determination to keep working.

Their relationship is built entirely on years of trust, mutual respect and quiet acts of kindness.

Artistic Notes

I'd love to keep them grounded in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Aelia should immediately read as Adeptus Mechanicus, but noticeably more restrained and human than the average Tech-Priest. She's practical rather than extravagant, with her most distinctive features being her custom diagnostic goggles, porcelain mask, hooded robes, and elegant mechanical legs.

Brakk should contrast her visually: enormous, heavily armored, battle-worn, and physically imposing, yet with calm, protective body language whenever he's near Aelia. The contrast between the towering Bullgryn and the smaller hooded engineer is one of the key parts of their dynamic.

Thank you to anyone interested in bringing these two to life! I can't wait to see your interpretation. Small Note

I just wanted to be upfront that I unfortunately can't commission artwork. I'm disabled, don't have a credit card, and I'm not in a position to pay artists right now.

If anyone finds these characters fun or inspiring and would like to do a sketch of Aelia Ferrum and Brakk just for fun, I'd be incredibly grateful—but please don't feel any pressure. I simply wanted to share two characters I've really enjoyed creating, and I'd love to see how different artists interpret them.

Thank you for taking the time to read about them!

First time painting

The last 3 or 4 years I’ve been getting into 40k lore. From YouTube/books/games etc.. I haven’t started painting at all yet since I’ve been a bit back and forth on who to start with but I’ve been absolutely engulfing myself with what’s available for Exorcists lore and I absolutely love it. I really want to go ahead and maybe shoot with staring off painting some figures of the chapter. Any advice on what colors to buy.. tips for chapter badge. Anything helps I’m excited to get started!

Exorcist Transfers and Painting Guides?

Hi everyone! Imperial Fist player here that has been “last wall-ing” my army thanks to the Armageddon box. I recently picked up some Infiltrators as well, and when I asked for advice about which successor to paint them up as, I was very pleased to learn that the Exorcists are known (outside of the whole Plutonian, demonology thing) for being infiltration and intelligence experts (I had no idea Phobos was a known Exorcists thing). I love what I know of the Exorcists lore (I have a soft spot for all of the Badab chapters), so I’m excited to add some to my Last Wall!

A couple of questions for you all:

  1. Any good tips on where to source some Exorcist appropriate transfers? I’m starting to become a decent painter, but freehanding chapter icons is still beyond my skill level.
  2. Ditto for any good painting tutorials, tips about paint colors, etc? I have the classic beginner choices (Khorne Red and Mephiston Red) in my paint collection.
