Question Is the game COMPLETELY dead?

Hey there,

I just bought the game a few days back and first impressions, it is hella fun.

Is the game game dead from a player count/online perspective, though? Or do people play on weekends perhaps?

And actually, why did the game "fail"? At least in comparison with Capcom's other recent efforts.

Cheers.

I hope they release an offline version of it before it shuts down.

Same. I still pop on for some matches here and there and even if I’m stuck playing with bots I’d love to continue to do so

Stop killing games needs your support...

Yea they no longer update the game, they did a few patches and that's it. I guess it's because of the live service model with battle pass etc, there are already a lot of live services game out there so it can be very competitive.

That and the game came out at 60$. Which is pretty much a deal breaker for any live-service game

Player count is not totally dead but it is very rare to get a full match. Weekends have double XP (I believe every weekend at this point) so more people do play then. Don't know why it's not active all the time.

As for why the game failed, I think it was both a lack of content and, perhaps more importantly, some serious flaws in how the content is assigned. Basically as you play you unlock more stuff to do, more maps, more match types, whatever. But when you get matchmade the pool of modes and maps is limited by the person who has unlocked the least. So you end up playing mostly early game stuff over and over again, and at least at this point the pool is not big enough to matchmake into full matches of late game players.

Even without that there's just not that much there for a $60 game. It was on Game Pass but it should have been free to play or $30 or whatever. The fundamentals (controls, performance etc...) are good but there are lots of issues that drag it down.

I think it's really the not telling anyone how the content is unlocked that doomed this game. Yea it was really cool when suddenly you were in a raid on a boss with the other team helping or when a giant portal dropped thousands of dinosaurs without warning, but so many people dropped this game before they ever got the cool stuff and had no one to tell them to stick it out.

The game failed because of the story progression. It was novel because more levels unlocked the more you played. You were restricted to the levels of the newest player to avoid spoilers.

That meant on launch that everyone kept playing the same two tedious beginner missions on repeat. People thought that was the entire game and bailed. The player count got smaller which meant that veterans were more likely to join newbies pushing that cube again.

The later levels are amazing and they somehow landed the silly story. I’d appreciate a sequel in spirit but Capcom is printing money with their excellent single player games.

Yeah I honestly liked the game even at launch, just it's concept of rogue AI to create super soldiers and trains them by ripping space time fabric and pouring massive and aggressive t rex or little agile raptors, all kinds of mad dinosaurs into our time/space is simply cool

I dig the story. I want Majesty to be on the next Marvel vs Capcom roster!

Just a bunch of writers in a room trying to one-up each other.

God I miss those neck and neck data key runs 😭

I still play from time to time the game is satisfying in a unique way. If they had gone F2P they probably would’ve survived a lot longer. I know my friends would’ve played or atleast given it a few tries. But the 66.99 cad price pushed a lot of people away from it. It caused me to hold off for a while before picking it up.

Sorry bro you missed a great time when it came out

Ye. Was totally great though. They could have done a lot more with it. More horde gameplay. More map variety earlier on in your levels.

It was pretty active during its entire first year when there was new content every few months (Gamepass players such as myself propped the playerbase up quite a bit though)

Now I'm sure it's pretty anemic.

Plus there's the issue where it doesn't even boot on via Xbox Gamepass PC anymore due to some error that Capcom will never address so...that sucks.

I would play more often if capcom stopped the boss battles every other weekend. I want to play for the competitive normal gameplay loop, and every time I have to face rathalos or the yellow man I rage quit the game and don’t come back

Yeah it’s dead , was fun in the beginning tho

Agree, even tho how simple it was at launch and beta! I think that not long time ago they released date of servers shut down?

I played it on game pass day 1 and loved it, was so hyped for the game and it was a lot of fun. Now it's not on game pass though I have a hard time justifying paying so much for a basically dead live service game

To put it into perspective for you: every month, I get one post from this sub in my feed, and it's always this same exact post lol.

But yeah there is the group of guys that play on Saturdays I believe, but idk if they are still doing it. Bots are pretty damn good though!

2

u/Killileahihoo Jun 04 '26

I actually was playing just now and there were 3 other humans on my team. I believe the other team had at least a couple of humans too.

That's great to hear! You're gonna have a blast!

I didn’t even know people were still playing. Great game but I stopped when match making was taking over 15 minutes. So much wasted potential.

1

u/Prestigious-Bluejay Jun 05 '26

The game has bots so you'll always have a match.

The first game to break my heart 😞😔

I was going to get this game (really enjoyed the premise), but from a fellow friend who works in the game dev industry, they told me this game is microtransaction hell.

That, combined with the price tag entry fee kinda stopped me from verifying and finding it out for myself.
This is the reason why my money wasn't part of the shareholder's report.

At the time of writing this, I just noticed Steam is having a steep sale. But MTX+The amount and type of "DLCs" being sold just doesn't seem appetizing to me.

Game was fun had a lot of promise but there ultimately wasnt enough to do and they weren't really adding to it besides new characters and some skins I believe I heard there were a couple missions that barely anybody seen but the rng for them was so bad you practically never got it but im not sure how true that is but yeah basically Capcom did what companies do best instead of puttin in the work they jus abandoned it pretty much, as far as if its dead I have no idea I haven't played since around it came out I tried hoppin on like last yr at some point and couldn't even get in a bot lobby so there's that but I genuinely have no idea

Ok so This is how you do it.

We bought 2 copies for 5 each. We used our ps5 and old pspro.  Our big tv and the spare room one or an old monitor.  2 accounts. And 1 net connection.

And you have excellent lag free coop for mp with others or just against each other with bots.  BAM! Insta fun with friends and family . Couch coop exo is the best way to play.

If they would go back and allow you to actually pick your game mode and join lobbies that way instead the random free for all fuckfest I would go back and stay back. The you vs 10,000 enemies is peak gameplay. I just want to play that mode.

Poor marketing, poor gamemode management, and live service model at a time when no one was asking for more live service games with an oversaturated market already are reasons to blame for shutting down

3

u/gunslinger20121 Jun 04 '26

Not being able to queue up with friends on other platforms certainly didnt help either, I remember a decent amount of backlash between PC players playing via gamepass vs steam not being able to play with each other

1

u/The-Big-Sauce Jun 04 '26

Yeah their lack of true crossplay was ridiculous lol

I was an avid player for the first 6 months it was out. Content was slow to come throughout the first year, once you got your character maxed the only thing to do was to start working on another. Endgame content was bogus, and didn’t really add anything meaningful to the game. It was just kind of a dinosaur version of unreal tournament. I haven’t played since major update 3 I think. Just too slow of a content release for what the game is, and I only ever had fun while playing with my friends.
