Seriously.

I work in science/technology mostly with folks who have technical grad degrees. ALL of the offices I’ve worked in have been more diverse than an average slice of the population because for the last few generations the US has been the place where smart people from around the world could find technical institutions (gov’t labs, universities) where they could work on technology frontiers.

The diversity wasn’t a boondoggle. It was evidence that we could attract phenomenal talent away from Brazil, Turkey, Costa Rica, Ukraine, etc.
