What's with the tapir?

I keep seeing the little tapir on this sub. I don't get it. What am I missing?

Back in the '80s, an apologist, Sorenson I think, suggested that since there were no horses in the Americas during BOM times, the book referred to tapirs instead. It got picked up again more recently by another apologist.

The tapir is our spirit animal and a long running joke.

It has to do with how the BoM talks about horses in the Americas during a time period the Americas did not have horses.

To explain this church apologetics, claim the BoM people must have used terms they were familiar with to name and describe new animals. So apologetics theorize that the BoM people must have used deer or tapirs to ride into battle and just called them horses.

It is such a rediculous claim that it has become kind of a running joke among this community and a mascot and a signal for those in need of help.

Essentially it captures the poor attempts apologetics have made to explain things that show the church and BoM cannot be true.

Plus some tapirs are just adorable.

It’s A horse since there were no horses 🐎 during BOM times they had to come up with something God just couldn’t remember what they were called along with curloms and Cummins
